If I ruled the world....😊

If I ruled the world I'd make all the ticket barrier machines positioned 'reachable' , from the car window ,to short @rses like me. Not in the middle of wide concrete islands , so that no matter how close I get to the Kerb I still can't bloody reach!

Son , in hysterics at my attempts to reach, had to jump out and press for the ticket when we entered the airport carpark the other night. Coming back out on my own , couldn't reach on first attempt. Daren't get out to put ticket in the machine to raise the barriers, incase I couldn't jump back in quick enough and get through before they came back crashing down again locking me in.
2nd run up , tyres scraping the kerb this time , take my seatbelt off and hang half out of the window to just about reach. ( Rather scary with no-one else in sight at 1.45am . )

Got to grow longer arms for the pick up run later tonight. πŸ˜‚
That reminds me! I'm only 5ft 6'', I'd make it so no supermarket could put things on the top shelf that I wanted. I had to ask a nice young man in Sainsburys this evening to reach sumat down for me. (Other supermarkets are available). He did, with a nice smile, but I shouldn't have had to ask him to. Why have shelves so bleeding high, that you need a step ladder to get stuff off them? Rant over!

In the days before Tags were widely available to 'foreigners' on the French autoroutes a litter picker was handy for collecting the tickets on entry and handing the tickets and credit cards to the toll booth person on exit, when I was driving on my own.

I'm with you on that one as well. I'm only 5ft 2" and quite often have to ask nice tall young men to reach high stuff for me or using something else on a shelf to whack things closer. ,

Easy to leave that behind, just strap these on and you're away.

I'm always scared of dropping my visa cards as I'm stretching for the machine in the M6 Toll Booths as well. (Not only me struggling though , a lady in the car in front of me once almost fell out of window trying to lean out enough to pay. I was so glad someone else has the same problem πŸ˜‚ At least I can get close enough to just about stretch to them ...... )

The Tag is your friend on toll Motorways. No more queues, no more payment shenanigans.

Nice young man? Where the heck did you find one of those? Was it a customer? I'm only 5ft 7' & people are always asking me to reach things down for them.....

He's new to me, couldn't tell you his name. He was outside being a trolley dolly when I left. Usual grumpy one must have had the night off ;)

If I ruled the world all car parks would be free if for no other reason than to save @staffordjas going through that shit every time. :teef:
After them reaching the carpark just as I arrived , son was able to run across and do the ticket machine for me when he saw me hanging out the window and still not managing to reach πŸ˜‚ The way out opened automatically tonight.

Another thing I'd do if I ruled the world....... put lights all along the motorway. Even if it was the red bat friendly lights that they have down the road by me , it would be better than going suddenly from the odd lit up parts to total blackness for miles. (Even the lorries were going slower in the pitch black parts ,made worse with fog tonight. )

The M5 used to have lights all the way down to Strensham Services and since I often travelled overnight back then it was a joy to drive on a well lit motorway. Then they were all ripped out.

It was a joy to get nearer to the airport on the M42 , felt much safer when it was nicely lit up.
I'd feel a lot safer breaking down as well , either standing on the hard shoulder , or being a sitting duck in a live lane (especiallly if electrics went and got no lights) , if there were a few lights about.

Sod light pollution hey.
The ecology team around here are working on getting various Amber & Red LEDS fitted on the estate and surrounding roads, with rear shielding to minimise back spill , and light pollution. ..

Already got a red 'Bat Highway' on the road by us. Bit spooky driving through it on my own in the early hours, but at least I can see the foxes about to cross over in front of me better...

Maybe they could plonk a few of them spaced out along the motorways to make it just a bit safer..
