Ah, you're a teacher! Fairy nuff, thought you meant potential sprogs of your ownMISS T said:I don't name them. Who'd call their child Chardonnay anyway? That's setting them up for a lifetime of woe.
I love all 'my' kids whatever their names and behaviour issues. The parents, well that's another matter...
I've thought this a few times, you go to respond to a post but there is a story about Gilbert the smoking beagle appeared between times. Kinda ruins any flow.Admin said:I'm thinking of closing this thread, as it seems a little counter-productive. Surely if a news item is worthy of discussion, it warrants a thread of its own? Having a generic news thread such as this discourages continued debate on any particular subject, as before people have had a chance to respond the thread has already moved on.

Yes and no. The thread is a little too large now to find anything in, as the search just identifies the thread it is in and 100+ pages is a bit much to go through if you don't have a good idea of when the post might have happened.Admin said:I'm thinking of closing this thread, as it seems a little counter-productive. On the Search form, if you select "Show results as Posts" in the drop-down box at the bottom of the form, it will return your results as individual posts rather than simply showing threads which contain your search terms. This way, you can find specific posts rather than wading through threads.Gramaisc said:Yes and no. Well, that's what I want to avoid, and it was some of the recent long-winded rants in here (which I should relocate but they became so numerous I really can't bring myself to start) that prompted this question. A bulk "news" thread is not really conducive to discussion, and I haven't got time to start deciding where posts should belong - that responsibility falls on the poster!Gramaisc said:If an item outgrows it's place in the News thread then it could be transposed to a specialist thread by the great keyboard in the sky.
I want to avoid bulk news threads altogether, and I firmly believe that anything one would want to post in here can be re-homed more appropriately. For instance, there are many posts in here about "Benefits Britain" and such which should really go in The Big Benefits & Employment Thread. For any headlines that don't have a natural home, one could simply start a new thread.Gramaisc said:There are no hard and fast answers here, some things take off and others are ignored. I think that a new News thread every twenty or so pages would be a reasonable approach.
Dammit, missed that one.tek-monkey said:you go to respond to a post but there is a story about Gilbert the smoking beagle appeared between times.
