It came to my notice this morning that @industryarch is no longer with us.

He joined the Forum in 2010, largely as a result of his abiding interest in local history and was a reliable source of information on many subjects, particularly things that might go unrecorded by more cursory historians.

I first met him at the Poly, in the mid-1970s, when he was very helpful over a large and cumbersome project that a friend had undertaken. After that, I would 'see him about' for many years (he had a very noticeable appearance), although his health began to fail and he became steadily more housebound. Later, I noticed him on various Facebook local history groups and would tip him off about things I found that might be of interest, usually scrapbooks and photo albums in charity shops, these were always welcomed and I would get them and drop them off to him. I think I actually suggested to him that he might find the Forum useful.

With my increasing absences, his failing health and the pandemic, etc., I probably haven't actually seen him for about four years now. His posting rate was never high, but it was dropping off lately, I had noticed.

There are a few others on here who would have known him in the 'real world' - and also the real ale world...

A sad loss.

I knew him best from with being on the same Stafford and Stone committee as him for quite a few years from 1974 onwards.
Yes, he was very helpful, very knowledgeable and he tended to be thorough in what he did.
I'm not sure if I've seen him since driving him between Silkmore Lane and the Asda a few times fifteen years ago.
A sad loss but decades ago he wasn't expected to reach 'three score years and ten' and he can't have had much of a life these past few years.
Only now have I learnt that he was 'Industryarch' on here.

There will be a bit of a do at the Crown, Hyde Lea, on the 20th of this month. It's a bit too far for me on the bike from here, but, if anybody, e.g. @Noah or @Mudgie, does attend, and if industryarch's brother is there, then please apologise on my behalf, for the scrapbooks and photo albums - I suspect the the lad was an even better hoarder than I am.

A lot of the other stuff I supplied him with was in digital form, which shouldn't cause much of a practical issue, I hope. These were generally photographs and locations of the many Victoria, Edward VII and George V letter boxes that survived independence here on the western island.
