Internet/ipad Connection help

I'm having a bit of bother with my i pad and phone.

I've always been able to use phone and i pad anywhere in the house for internet but up until yesterday I could only use the phone and i pad if I was standing directly in front of the router.

Today I can't use the phone or i pad at all in the house. The wifi symbol is showing in the corner of the screen and I can use the main computer.
For example, if i try to go on to the forum on my iPad it says "safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding" even though I can use the main computer and have internet there.

Also on the TV, with sky on demand it says "you have no internet connection".

I"m confused, because obviously I do have an internet connection in the house but it's not connecting to the tv, phone or iPad.

Actually while I was typing the above my phone just received 2 e mails but those e mails haven't come through on the iPad.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Is the main computer also connected via the wireless side, or is it using an ethernet cable and bypassing the potentially faulty wireless side of your router?

Enjoying a drop of red.
Unplug router for 30 seconds then plug it back in again and wait for it to boot up. See if that helps.

I have no idea what any of that means.

I've tries that but it hasn't worked.

I'll probably have to wait until husband gets back to ring BT because if I ring them they might ask me questions (such as the one @Gramaisc asked and I won't know what they are talking about).

In addition to that the washing machine has stopped mid cycle. I've tried to start from the beginning but its stopped mid cycle again.
Tried to just rinse and spin and its stopped mid rinse. I can't even open the door to get the washing out.

Is the main computer near the modem and connected to it by a wire?

If so, then it may still be working because of that, when the other, wirelessly connected, items are struggling - if it is just a wireless issue.

It may look something like this, at the back - is there a lead from one of the yellow sockets to the main computer?

If the WiFi is working - which it suggests it is, it means the internet isn't getting to the router somehow.

There are no wires from the yellow sockets.
One wire for power and the the other from DSL.

I'll get husband to look at that help thing when he gets home.
Thanks @Gramaisc

Yes, we've obviously got internet but something is interfering with it.

Right, that implies that the main computer is using the wireless as well - get the man in and don't feed him until he's fixed it.

On another subject, managed to give the washing machine another try because it wouldn't unlock so I set it to "final spin".

I think it took me literally for its "final spin", hell I thought the thing was going to blow itself up the noise it made.

Managed to get the door open, my new cream duvet cover is covered in oil marks.:(:(

Mmm, I suggest you don't start the car or any other expensive item, until the third thing has failed...

Drum bearing failure..?

Sounds like a stale connection.
Power down the router for at least 30 mins and power off all tablets , phones etc just before rebooting the router.
Once the connection is back up , power on all devices to allow them to be seen on the network.

I think we may all have lost sight of the bigger issue here which is that, frankly, I'm staggered that Bednall even knows what the internet is, never mind actually has it!

They'll have running water next, mark my words.

And steam engines, whatever next?
