tbh, i wouldn't mind that much if it weren't for the fact that the 3GS is supposed to be a "minor" upgrade, and there will be a better one released in a year..

rumours are that apple are going to do "milestone" upgrades of the iphone every 2 years, with "performance bumps" every other year.. so if i took out a 2 year contract now, it means that by the time my contract runs out i would end up lumbered with a "minor" upgrade again.. so, if the rumours are to be believed, it would be better to be locked into the 2 year cycle next year, so that every time you upgrade you're getting the cutting edge shiz..

I'd rather not bother, won't pay over £25 for a phone and don't like the idea of 2 year contracts.

neither do i, but the iphone is actually starting to become too sexy to avoid now, imo.. i want an ipod anyway, so i figure i might as well just save money on buying one and get an iphone instead.. i pay £35/month atm for my n95, so that's no bother - it's just the length of the contract that's off-putting, as you say.. but even then, the iphone looks so good that i really wouldn't mind being lumbered with it for 2 years.. you can move down to a cheaper tariff after 9 months, as well..

If I remember correctly you can get 18 month contracts but it means paying £100 for the phone.

Still not convinced, but then I suppose I don't need an ipod. I still have a 20Gb Creative Zen Touch, which whilst being a bulky sod (got it in 2004) has brilliant sound quality and does everything I need. My phone just, erm, phones people! I have an N85 from my old boss, its on contract so is free to me, yet I never use it. Find the 6500 an easier phone to use and it does all I need. The contract is up on that in a few months, so I'll upgrade then, but only to something that doesn't cost me. £25 is enough a month for a phone I feel.

A single character sent by text message could allegedly compromise every iPhone released to date.

apple has been in danger of becoming a victim of its own success for a while now.. the only reason windows (and its variants) are so often hacked is that it is the dominant platform globally.. no-one cared about mac OS cos, really, what's the point in hacking an OS that only has 4 users worldwide? but now apple are picking up pace, and mac OS is everywhere, hackers are starting to get interested..

seriously apple, cracking open the iphone by sending a single character?? pay attention! lol..

A friend of mine once cellotaped an old rotary dial telephone to the top of his dashboard and when he was stopped at the lights proceeded to appear to make a call. Then with the old hand set to his ear he would casually glance to the car pulled up alongside and raise his eyebrows with a poker face. Never failed to make em larf

Spose you had to be there really..

Al get me coat..

Can't imagine that O2 are over the moon about this lol.

I am though, and shall definitely be getting a new 3Gs or the latest model when my current contract is up. Which isn't for blummin' ages yet :(

I think the iPhones are lovely and sleek but having had a quick play with both, Android seems so much more customisable which you don't seem to get with the iBone. Add to that the extortionate costs of the iBone and I would never get one.

Plus no multi-tasking on the iBone... whats that all about. How long before they bring out an iBone 3G S&M

well, that's the point of my post above which resurrected this thread - orange and vodafone are gonna start selling it soon, so the price is gonna come down to your typical phone cost :)

Haha...I went into the Apple shop in Brum at the weekend and thought something along those very lines as I was trying not to drool over their filthy computers. As good as they look (and probably are) though, they ain't half fookin expensive!

To be clear, Apple’s iPhone and iPhone 3G both are capable of running multiple applications in the background. Apple already allows limited multi-task support to its native iPhone applications – like Mail, iPod and Phone. Unfortunately, the 128MB of RAM in the iPhone just isn’t enough to keep up with native iPhone apps as well as multiple third-party applications.
