Iraq Inquiry

Do you expect anything truly constructive to come of the Iraq Inquiry, which starts today? Imo, the toothless, fawning style of the other inquiries into the matter, such as the Hutton Inquiry into the Kelly affair do not bode well. Hey, but enough of my yackin. Let's boogie. What do you think?

sorry to worry you, sofs, but i'm agreeing with you again lol.. i just can't imagine any government sanctioning a report that, if the truth were told, would criticise them so heavily and cast them in such a bad light..

I think they'll tell the truth, just to ensure they are kicked out and don't have to fix all the shit they've caused!

It has the making of an establishment stitch up. The head of the inquiry, Sir John Chilcott, was on the committee of the Butler Review, an inquiry into the intelligence relating to WMD.

Not much. These things are usually intended to placate the masses in the hope that the vast majority will get bored with it and just lose interest. I would struggle to think of an example where an establishment figure has been truly held to account in this manner.

One things for sure....alot of people are gonna get a nice pay day over the coming months for being involved !! And it aint gonna make a blind bit of difference !! How did the independant enquiry into the Normon Conquest go on by the way ? And more importantly isn't it about time us brits got an apology for that !! (King Harold and his WMD huh ?!!)

The 'official truth' has been defined for us enough times now, and I will be surprised if the line is not toed in the required manner by all concerned.

However, there has been some breaking of ranks in the Baha Musa inquiry of late. We'll see...

But.....what of they do put the boot in...what if they say what we all know ?? Blair - guilty as charged !! Do we as a country take ourselves of to Nuremburg to hang by the neck ??? Nope....soemone just gets paid some money and Clare Short will nod her head sagely on Question Time and say i told you so !! Big deal !!

Carrying on pretending that it didn't happen just makes it easier to do it again, and again. I don't expect anybody to actually be tried in a court as a result of this inquiry, but it would probably at The Hague these days - if it did actually happen.

The Hague isn't really intended to cover 'us', just Milosevic, Karadzic, Mladic, Charles Taylor and the like...

I'm being facitious and a touch ironic old fella !! Not having a go at any bods on here !! Just too cynical of everything ! At the end of the day ...whats done is done !! Look on the bright side.....internal combustion engines will be made for a touch longer with that bit of extra oil !! lol...Its important when you have to take the Jag out every sunday afternoon !!

Ps. On a serious note.....i know we got bullshitted about reasons etc etc but....in the long run...is Iraq a better place for it ? I know alot of people have suffered and its easy to ask the question sitting in my comfy bunker...but i just wonder........

Everyone should watch Yes (Prime) Minister. It tells you everything you need to know about official government inquiries.

That I did not know. How reassuring that someone of that pedigree, calibre and judgment is there to ensure probity.

How refreshing to meet a man who is prepared to admit his errors and acknowledge the obvious misunderestimations that he has made.
