It seems I could be walking around with a 'Please take my money' sign on my forehead at the moment, and they still wouldn't notice. I actually want to go there based on previous experience, current reputation and quality etc. In times when the general public are limited in their spending on going out to eat, it's very important to keep your eye on the ball. Keeping customers is very important, but you have to get them before you can try that.

I've just got back home from yet another lovely lunch here - food was delicious as always, my favourite place to go for lunch.

Had another lovely meal here last night.

Mexican prawn salad for me followed by a mussels and salmon linguine. Breaded brie followed by vegetable bhaji burger for the wife. Cheesy garlic bread to share.

I wasn't overly fussy on the Mexican prawn salad - nothing wrong with it just not to my taste and perhaps a little bland - bad choice by me. Everything else was delicious though.

I can see that I am in a minority of what seems like one here but I really don't like Pastiche.

We have had a number of not very good meals in so much noise that we couldn't talk to our friends. We have subsequently avoided the place. Recently, though, we were invited to a birthday meal there and so gave it another go.

Initially I was really, really impressed. You completed a menu selection online which I've never seen anywhere before. I thought that would be brilliant because everyone would get served at the same time and we wouldn't have to remember what we'd chosen.

On the evening they hadn't even set enough places. Various dishes never arrived (though appeared in the bill) some people had finished eating by the time other people were served, we got random duplication of side dishes and the staff were astonishing: "Oh, d'you still want it?" they asked my friend who despite asking several times, had failed to receive her food!

The meals were ok. Some cold, mine not. The acoustics are so crap that you could only talk to the person sitting next to you.

Nobody argued about the bill because it was a birthday. We all left, feeling good to be outside and resolving never, ever to go back there. Judging by the staff we met, I'm sure they don't care in the slightest.

I usually go at lunchtime and mostly have a lovely meal.

I took a friend a few months ago and we were the only people in there...at about 1.pm on a Thurs.

Such good value, I couldn't work out why it was empty...2 delicious courses at lunch for about £6.

I've still never had a bad meal in Pastiche and go regularly - sometimes for lunch, sometimes in the evening and two or three times for special occasions. the last time was last week with a table of 11 of us for my daughters 21st. We too did the online selection beforehand. The meals arrived promptly and all at the same time and the food as usual was delicious. the staff as always were friendly, polite and helpful. Can't wait to try next months menu.

Isn't it odd that the same place can provide such completely different experiences? I guess that shows why you shouldn't choose somewhere based on reviews - in the end, it all comes down to how they do on a particular night.

I'm pleased other forumites have had a better time there. In fairness though, I won't be rushing back!

My office Christmas meal was here in late December after work. It's the only Christmas office meal I've ever had that was hot. Everyone in the party agreed. I'm not a fan of Christmas meals in a big party as you generally don't get served together and the food is cold. So this was top marks to Pastiche. I've never had a bad meal there but to to be fair I've probably only been a few times in the last year.

Popped into the New Pastiche Pantry, the coffee shop downstairs - lovely, lots of space (the advertise as being pushchair friendly) - we had lattes (excellent) and very tasty pancakes with maple syrup and bacon - dainty but very tasty. They've got a good offering of salads, sandwiches, deli platters etc - worth a visit.

Went to Pastiche last night for the first time , after being recommended by a customer in The Swan , as they had just stopped serving bar food (Not impressed by the customer service of the bar girl in The Swan not coming back to us after going off to see if food was still being served at the cut off time. Just carried on serving someone else and we had to go back to the bar to find the answer!)

Luckily Pastiche managed to find us a table for 2 downstairs, without us previously booking. Bit light in there for my liking, but still a nice atmosphere. Is it darker upstairs?

Food was excellent with 2 courses on the menu for £13 . But had to pay £2 extra for my vegetables (which they tried charging for twice on the bill!!!! ) and hubby paid £5 extra for his steak. Both meals very well cooked and very tasty with plenty of sauces on them.
The Estrella on draught wasn't very good and the only alternative afterwards was bottled beers.

We were thinking of making a couple of return visits in January for birthday meals. But put me off a bit when we had to go to the bar as we left ,to ask to pay the bill, which they then tried overcharging for. May have been an innocent mistake, but............

We've had Pastiche vouchers in the past and struggle to give them away to the same people twice.
