it seems that pastiche is open and trading under it's original name (it was briefly re-packaged as a frog) 1, they had a valentines menu in the board at street level (maybe it's croaked again since then) 2, how long has it been trading again? 3, why weren't we told? I need reliable information as to what is going on as friends from out of town love the place and when they visit in may would like to have a meal there......

It was open as Pastiche about a month ago, maybe more. Le Frog didn't last long as it was a bit over priced, and the name was appalling. Mother and I went for lunch and was back to one price for the menu, but I think it may have been six quid. Food was lovely, as always, but it was a bit empty for a Friday. Hopefully its still open now.

If no one knows it is open again (and I certainly didn't) then I doubt it would do much business...

No wonder they went bust the first time... very poor show IMHO and I used to love the food.

i also have a feeling but in the meantime they should maybe put another ad in newsletter and perhaps put an 'A' board in the high street preferably not of the spinning variety.....

I had a meal in here last week. Now I'm not usually one to complain  but it was not nice at all. The chicken was like a lump of rubber, I couldn't cut it it was so springy. The risotto tasted like rice pudding, the crumble looked like it hadn't been cooked. The only thing that was pleasant was the service. They were quick to apologise and said that all their meals were cooked from fresh and took it back and let me change my mind on my order as by then didn't feel like what I had ordered. I then had the rice pudding risotto and salmon. It was not good at all. As I had never eaten risotto before I didn't know what it tasted like, so I put it down to bad choice. The crumble was nothing like you would imagine a crumble to be (disappointed). It was quite a pleasant taste but wouldn't rave about it. All in all I was very disappointed and will not be rushing back their or recommending it to anyone else. This is not the place that I had heard so many good reports about.

What a shame it's not a Chinese. You could have done the 'This chicken is rubbery' joke.

That's not to say she will have the same experience, I hope not anyway. The staff were really nice!!

Indeed she had a good time, not the same for me as i wasn't invited but had to keep dry as i was given the task of driver. I cautiously advised her that discretion would be advisable in such a public environment and being attached to a 'babbling mentalist' was something of a private matter.....

Went to Pastiche for lunch last Monday...really good food, especially at 2 courses for a fiver! 3 of us went, all had a drink (beer, coffee and J20), and it came to £20 in total. The evening menu was more varied and there are things on there which i'd have gone for instead of what I had, but impressed nevertheless.

Sadly it's getting to the 'use it or lose it' stage, we have visited the place once a month over the last few years. We now intend to get there twice a month. Some friends of ours who live in Blackheath (SE London) insist that they take us there whenever they visit which is 4/5 times a year. On one of their visits they said that if such a place was available at twice the price in their locale, booking would have to be mandatory or people would be crushed in the stampede. We just don't appreciate what we've got here......

We had a superb meal there last night, I was very plesantly surprised. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was nice, the service friendly. Great ingredients cooked with flair. and best of all £20 a head on Valentines night!! £11.50 for 2 courses usually and now second meal is half price so £16.50 for 2 courses for 3 people. CANT GO WRONG

Do they make it up on drinks and coffees?

the drinks are not extortionate a reasonable bottle of chilean Sauvignon for £13-14 compared to other places its Ok. There are some suppliments on some of the meals i.e if you want a steak you'll pay £2 extra but thats acceptable. the food was excellent, produce very fresh and good quality. a good selection of dishes and they change their menu frequently.
