We were at the station waiting for a train into Birmingham when the Lancaster flew over, it was pretty spectacular. That was just one, imagine the 100s that used to fly to Germany every night during WWII (frightning!). There were also RAF personnel & cadets parading outside the Church.

I was stuck in a traffic jam near Boston in Lincolnshire a few years ago when I heard a noise in the sky. I got out the car & there was a Spitfire flying over the town. It was even lower than the Lancaster was today, the roar of the Merlin engine was unbelievable, it gave you goosebumps!

I love WWII history. Watched a great programme a while ago about the Battle of Britain & they were interviewing some of the remaining Spitfire & Hurricane pilots who fought in it. They talked about their ages at the time - 19, 20, 21 etc. You imagine some of the toerags we have in the town who are that age defending our land now??.

A few years ago I had the occasion to visit Duxford to visit the Air Museum whiile there was also a Modern Classic Car Show going on so two things to see! Including IWM Tank collection so a really full day! We were just walking between two hangers and the doors opened and an aircraft tow drew out a Spitfire a bowser drew up and fueled it up as we watched. The pilot appeared and in a few minutes climbed in and it then taxied off and flew away, Breathtaking!

Including IWM Tank collection

You didn't happen to nick a .50 calibre machine gun from one of the tanks did you. Somebody stole one during an open session and it was never recovered. IWM were desperate to know how it was removed from the tank and carried out of the site with thousands of people on the site - they reckoned they needed 6 people, over half an hour and a trolley to do the same thing.
