Laptop wireless connection keeps dropping

I have a samsung R519 laptop on w7. The network adapter is a Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter.

The connection keeps dropping every few mins. When i try to reconnect it i get a message cannot connect to network (signal strenght excellent).
If i run troubleshooter it cant identify the problem.

Opening the network sharing center - im connected on a home network group - ive tried changing this to internet but it still doesnt make a difference.

When its not connected - the adapter properties say - device is working - the adaptor is not connected.

Theres another laptop in the house running xp and a desktop running xp - they never lose their connection, its just this one!

I have windows secrurity (firewall & antivirus) - havent installed anything new. The router is 10ft away. Its saying its a WPA2 PSK connection

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be - its driving me crazy!!

try rebooting your wireless router before anything else. People think it can't be the problem if other computers are connecting okay, but you'd be surprised.

Also check windows updates (optional updates) and see if there's an updated driver version to install.

Drivers updated in dec - says ive got uptodate version, i reboot router but still drops! Its a DLink router. It will happen in batches - then it will go okay for hours - then next day could go off, on, off, on for hours!

I thought it was interferience from something or someone, but it does it at 6am in the morning, so cant be that either.

i would say it is a fault with the internal wifi card personally, but if you login into the router and check for any updates on the dlink router it self that would clear up if it is a wifi card problem

Log on to your router and change the wireless channel, you could also try lowering the security to WPA instead of WPA-2.
Failing that reinstall your wireless drivers and double check any wireless switches on your laptop :)

Hope this helps!

Will try thanks, it was only 4 weeks ago i had to ring aol about the desktop hence why its hardwired in now :( The router had wiped all settings off - even though nothing had been changed this end.
He got it all setup but the laptop still wont hold its wireless connection!

but will give your suggestions a go and let you know how it goes

previous poster has a point. Even if your wireless card is failing, sometimes they'll continue to work if connected to a WEP encrypted network.
+1 skill to the newbie

This may sound stupid, but I've solved a few wireless issues this way...
Is that particular laptop always used in the same place? Is it near anything that can cause interference?
My desktop lost its wifi every time the central heating came on (odd, I know), until i put the dongle on a 3m usb cable and stuck it to the wall. My friend's drops its connection when she uses her washing machine.
Another time I found that the flatmate's mobile phone was trying to use the same ip address as our server.

We have BT broadband and our wireless connection has been dropping of late but not the wired connection.

Have you rebooted your wireless router - this may sound silly but it's the first thing you need to try.
Also some more information might help - Do you have only one wireless laptop / pc / xbox? Does the wireless drop on them all or just one of them?
