Little Dessert Shop in Stafford

A popular pudding shop has been given a lowly food hygiene rating following a spotcheck. The Little Dessert Shop in Stafford was inspected by Stafford Borough Council officials with a number of issues being uncovered.
The branch - which is part of a national chain - was criticised for a lack of sanitiser on the premises at the time of the visit and as a result work surfaces and equipment were not being disinfected. Meanwhile, there were also steel fridges obstructing fire exits.
Focusing on cleanliness, the report noted that the wash hand basin was not in regular use, the floor covering in the kitchen underneath the fridge was dirty and there was a build-up of food debris, StaffordshireLive reports.
The inspection was completed on Thursday, May 19, at the Mill Bank venue. Overall, it scored two stars out of a possible five. The lowest rating is zero.
The report said that "cardboard had been placed at the bottom of the double stainless steel fridge unit". It went on to say: "There was no sanitiser on the premises at the time of the inspection, and as a result work surfaces and equipment were not being disinfected."
It was noted that the "floor covering in the kitchen underneath the fridge unit was dirty, there was a build-up of food debris" and that the kitchen extractor fan was in a dirty condition.
Inspectors also found that the front kitchen door was in a poor state of repair and decoration and the floor covering in the storage room downstairs was in a poor state, particularly the area by the walk in freezer. Other concerns included there being no hot water to the staff wash hand basins in the kitchen and the front preparation area.
There was also no hygienic hand drying facilities, for example paper towels, at the kitchen wash hand basin, the report said. The report reads: "A trailing electrical lead was noted outside the staff toilet upstairs. All trailing leads should be eliminated wherever possible, if this is not possible leads should be suitably protected, for example, with rubber walk overs to prevent damage to the lead.
"A number of items were being stored by the side of the stairs leading to the storage room downstairs. At the time of the inspection, stock was being stored on the stairs, creating a tripping hazard.
"The floor in the walk in freezer was slippery due to a build up of ice on the floor. The fire exit route was obstructed. The double stainless steel refrigerator had been placed on the landing of the stairs by the rear fire exit door."

Little Dessert Shop in Mill Bank, Stafford, was approached and acknowledged the request for comment from StaffordshireLive but did not get back us. The chain also has a store in Hanley.
