Is it one of the new style red ones? If not, they're re-issuing log books automatically at the moment.

No easy way out that I know of. I recently had to pay £25 for one myself.
Do you not have the green slip part from when you bought it? If so you can send that in and say you never received yours and it would be free - but that's the only way I know

I got my new red one the other day - if it's not urgent probably best to hang on for the new ones to be issued. They're being re- issued due to the theft of some blue ones...I wonder how many were taken - must be quite a few to force the re-issue of all log books!

winner, i'm not looking at getting rid of the motor anytime soon, so i'll just wait for the new style. and they were probably looking to update the log books to make them less easy to counterfit anyway, the theft of some proably just forced the issue

Yes that's what the letter said, they'd had a lot of blank blue ones go missing that's why the new red one was released :)

I have a read one, I got it when I bought my car in 2010, so I thought they were just updating them.

I didn't realise it was a new red one that I got, after I sent details of the seating removal on my van!

As luck would have it, I have just had two new V5s as a results of SORNing a couple of vehicles and the enclosed notes explain the V5 renewal programme.

So, you can just hang on for the new one, if you're in no rush. You don't need to return the old one, just destroy it, they say...

I wouldn't trust the DVLA enough to throw away any history that might be useful evidence to correct mistakes they make!
