Did you go through the sub ? I found that much more cramped than the one at Portsmouth Museum.

No I didn't as they were only doing guided tours and I didn't think I had the time as they were waiting on a minimum amount of numbers and there weren't many people there.

Also the ability for me to get through the hatches with my hip may have been a little difficult.

Ever Given made it to Rotterdam and discharged some boxes. She's now discharging some more in Felixstowe and may do Hamburg. When finished I'm told she's going to drydock in Dunkirk. Could be she did take some damage during her Suez adventure. :|

How long is the crew on boats like this way from home normally Bob?

I'm assuming that if the EG does go into dry dock the crew will be flown home, or so they have to hang around?

Crews aren't necessarily removed for a standard maintenance drydock but often remain onboard. (A total pain in the arse back in the day because if you needed a pee you had to go ashore to do it. These days they have an onboard sewage plant.) Depends on what the damage is and how long she's going to be in. Honestly couldn't say how long the trips are these days as it varies by nationality. In my day I did 6 and 8 monthly trips regularly and 13 months on one occasion. Then I joined Canadian Pacific and they did 3 months on tankers, 4 months on bulkers but I sometimes asked for an extension (doing an exam onboard or trying to time in a holiday) and they usually agreed to that.

She's now anchored off Harwich. There's talk that the drydock in Europe is cancelled, and she's going to head back to the Far East (via Suez !!!) for repair. Sounds to me like there's a lot of wheeling and dealing going on.

We used to watch the launching from the ballast hill on the other side of the river in the late 50’s/ early 60’s. All the old blokes used to tell about the houses near the river being flooded when they launched the big ones.
That pic from 1970 must be one of the very last ships built there.

Having left Felixstowe and had a quick cargo stop at Marsaxlokk in Malta, the Ever Given is now going back through Suez for the Far East and I'm told drydocking in Singapore. I bet the Canal Authorities have got a lot of eyeballs on her .....

Hate to see a ship in a fix like that. Wondering if there'll be any hull damage as she settles on those boulders. :(
