Market Square paving.

My 72 yr old wife tripped on an upturned rusty griddle 18 mths ago in Stafford town square banging her head and hurting her legs, there were also loose cobble stones and missing ones which we took photos of. Made a formal complaint and clouncil tried discouraging tactics like asking for exact locations and witnesses, we gave them both and also suggested they looked at their own CTTV. They passed it on to their solicitors, who replied to us saying "they are satisfied with the council's standard of upkeep of the square, case closed" !!
Neither the council or the solicitors asked about my wife or that they were sorry to hear of her injury.
We should have gone straight to injury claims solicitors but we thought the council would be more concerned about their council tax payers,
lesson learned !

Realistically, it should be a 2 week job, 3 at the most. But I feel this will be stretched out to Xmas time & beyond - "due to unforeseen circumstances". Similar to the Pets at Home roundabout situation.

Just 3 trees remaining now, no doubt their days are numbered too. All seems pointless when everything seems to be moving out of the town centre

You've gotta factor in pointless exercises to stretch the money and time out though, like that green box outside Barclays / boots. They've moved it once a few feet closer to the bank, then moved it back to the original spot, then got rid of the new box they just installed and reinstated the old box, now, they've decided to reinstate the new box again. That wasted about 2 weeks of work.

Sorry to change the subject, but I have heard a rumour that a massive change to the centre of Stafford is being considered. Have looked on line and obviously here but can't find anything about it, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out I wasn't looking in the right place, but I heard that serious consideration is being given to flattening Mc Donalds in Greengate St, to open up the centre of the town and the view of St Mary's! :slayer:
Might be Bull, but what a fantastic idea, we've got 3 McD's within 1/2 mile of each other then another less than 2 miles out of town! So we wouldn't miss one would we? Quite the opposite, only thing we would miss would be their rubbish scattered in the street, and the throngs of youngsters gathering round the place, then hanging around inside the place long after they'd eaten, with the occasional anti-social behaviour that occurs!

Is the blabber mis-informed? it is second hand; or does this tale have legs? Would love to know if anyone has heard anything?

Sounds like a nice idea and would open up the Mews shops as a greater part of the town centre.

Can’t see it happening though, the McDonalds is always rammed and it’s not like they’re rushing to rip down the North End which desperately needs it.

I can't imagine who would pay for "flattening Mc Donalds in Greengate St, to open up the centre of the town and the view of St Mary's", surely neither council or our MP, but it's a lovely idea.
It reminds me of the dreadful Broadmarsh Shopping Centre recently being redeveloped to open up a way between Nottingham's railway station and city centre, Plymouth city centre being rebuilt after the war with the spacious Armada Way between the railway station and the Hoe and the Old Steine retained as an open space inland from the pier as Brighton was developed in the late eighteenth century.

Eah? what? what you on? I live there....no ripping down norfend!
The north end of the town centre. The old Stafford department store place and all those vacant shops need bulldozing and some urban living redevelopment is desperately needed. No one is going to fill any of those units.

Actually I’ll caveat no one with anything other than vape shops etc.

Didn’t SCC splash out a Million for Super Drug, so they could knock it down and open the way to their new Building. Yet super drug is still there? I thought there were plans to develop Eastgate Street area? Does anyone really have a plan for Stafford?

Plan is a four letter word.
