In the old house I wasn't on a meter and paying £508 per year for this current year. Now on a meter , I've just done the water meter calculator ... forecast estimated £600 :o

When we set it up for this house and meter was read to adjust payments , it was a fortnight after we had moved in and the meter had been read on move in day. She said it was excessive useage over that fortnight.....apparently 'normal' useage is classed as each person having only 4 showers a week (we have at least 2 a day each) and only using washing machine a couple of times a week (I wash at least every day) .

Been trying to cut useage down a bit since , but hate being on this meter especially as it says It'll be costing us more even though I've gone low on the useage calculations.

How many clothes do you wear a day? If you wash half loads then by not washing as much you'll save a lot on electricity too.

I'm not on a meter, but seeing as they've been told they can add millions onto everyone's bills , I'm expecting quite a jump.

Most of the cost of the water bill for me (on a meter) is the sewage charges and surface water drainage. If you can prove the surface water from your property doesn't drain into the road or go into the sewer you can have that removed from the bill.

I do the economy quick wash . I go out fast walking a lot which means sweaty clothes. Then night sweats means regular bedding changes. Used to wash at least twice a day before realising we were on a meter in this new house.

Severn Trent bloke did find our meter was still running at a rate of 27 litres a day when we had the massive burst outside in the street ,despite nothing switched on in the house. Found one of the toilets was constantly overflowing into the cistern, so that's been fixed as well as a slight leak under the sink. So hoping that brings the water useage down a bit now........
