Mclaren Pushchair Recall

Is it just me or is there something a bit sinister about Mclaren recalling a million pushchairs in the US but not doing anything about the issue in Europe?

Surely any danger to children that can possibly be avoided or mitigated should be?

Am I alone in feeling a bit sickened by what appears to be a dreadful lack of corporate responsibility on Mclaren's part?

i was wondering the same thing.. i assumed it was because the UK models were a different design/spec, but haven't looked further into the story so this is pure assumption.. if this isn't the case, how on earth have they justified not doing a UK recall??

It's probably because they're fatter and keep breaking them.

I don't understand what the problem is with recalling European models. It cannot be a reputation issue, the USA recal is all over the news. I do like the way they are now supplying a kit to cover te elbow joint, clearly that should have been there from the start, wouldn't you say?

I totally agree with you that the safety of the children is paramount, and I don't know how it would sit on my conscience allowing this to happen (yes i do have some compassion lol) and then doing nothing about it in such a vast area.

From a design point of view the designers should be ashamed of themselves, as should the safety inspectors and testers for allowing such a joint to be used.

Have they said where the amputations took place? If the dozen or so were all in the USA then I can understadn them only recalling the USA models, however I doubt this is the case.

As ever it is also the parent's responsibility to make sure their children are safe around such eqipment too, regardless of how badly its been designed.

For once sofa, I am 100% with you on this one, mclaren should take responsibility for their (poor) actions.

Haha the first thing that went through my mind was they were stupid enough to get hurt by it, the europeans know to keep their kids away from moving parts!

I believe they aren't being recalled here because they meet the European safety standards.
Not *quite* sure how that works...

They 'meet' US safety standards, too. Perhaps it is down to the slightly more litigious nature of our cousins across the pond. Either way, I won't be purchasing any products from this company ever, because, as far as I can tell, they are guilty of criminal negligence. Can you imagine the horror your tiny child losing a part of their finger? How do they sleep?

Quite well, they have very expensive beds I'd guess. Morals and guilt are entirely subjective, if you don't believe you should feel it you wont.
