Meadowcroft Park roundabout repair - June 2012

After the really heavy rain last month leading to the roundabout collapsing (or sewers/pipes underneath) they've now started to repair it and closed off one side of the roundabout..

It's a bit of a mess around there.. even if it only adds about 2 minutes to a normal journey.. but does anyone have any idea of how long these works are going to last?

It's been quite an interesting sight. At first it was just a bit of police tape around the signs and I thought someone just needed to stick a bit of cement in there. But since then the construction site has got bigger and bigger and they've even got some porta-cabins in there so probably they're going to be here for a while. And just this morning I saw a digger ripping up even more of the road.

They've had to change the road layout three times. Once the tyres got ripped off the axles of a tyre trying to cross the metal ramp, they did remove the lights at one point but put them back because there wasn't enough room for lorries to get round. At least they've put sensors in the lights now so they detect traffic instead of being on a timer.

Also, I think the damage means the entire estate doesn't have a working sewage system. A lorry with a big hose on the back is coming into the estate on a daily basis presumably to suck up the waste that isn't being drained. Something that does worry me is whether there's any change to the stability to the ground under the houses.

Oh dear. I saw during the past few days that they were tarmacking over the hole they dug where the roundabout used to be. So I assumed that they had finished the repairs and were putting the road back to how it was.

Not so! I just had a letter from them telling me that they are finishing their investigations and the actual work, described as a 'major civil engineering project' won't start until 23rd July and is to last up three months

Anyone know what's going on with the repairs? Its been about 18 months and there's still work going on, although most of the road has been restored... we used to have frequent letters but nothing for a while.

Apparently they are waiting for a piece of equipment to test if there are problems with all the other sewers. The same equipment can fix them without digging the road up.

Anyone got anymore on this? I've heard talk of a residents association, I live on the estate and know nothing about an RA, google doesn't turn anything up either.

There's quite a bit of information on here. There's a number on there you can text to sign up for updates; I've been getting a text every week or so.

I don't think they'll be finished any time soon. Looks like they're working on a newly collapsed drain in Taragona Drive and then they're going to be laying a new pipe off Landstone Road which seems to be going through two back gardens - there's a letter on the side with a diagram

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
It would be interesting to know how the original sewerage works was actually passed as fit for use.

Are these just the laziest workmen ever. Why is it still being worked on 2 years later? I never see anything happening when I drive past.
