Mobile signal in Wildwood/Hillcroft Park

Is there any chance the situation in this area is going to improve?

I moved from Giffgaff (02 network) to Three as I was tired of getting no 3G in and around home. Since the Police HQ mast has been decommissioned I've been getting little or no signal. I've swapped to EE and it's exactly the same.

I'm hoping so! My EE signal is now the worst it's ever been in my house on Wildwood. I have to hang out of the one bedroom window to get it most times, and even then it's been repeatedly losing it in calls lately.. Used to have to go outside in the garden but even that isn't working now either.

There's a new small mast near the bus stop on the A34 just down from the temporary mast. Is that now switched on and what network does it serve?

EDIT: it's a Vodaphone mast.

That's been there for some time - it predates the temporary doodah by some more moments of time.

It thus doesn't appear to be making much of a difference, but i'm not particularly 'schooled' in this matter.

In the interests of disambiguation - it woz there before, it doesn't hunt the other as prey.

I've managed to keep a weak signal on my phone by not touching the bottom (oo pardon) of the phone, that's where the antenna is on phones these days.

Madness that you can get a better signal over the chase than in Stafford. Must be a comms downgrade to go with the hospital and university downgrade.

The new mast may not even be switched on yet. The new one on Baswich Lane (EE) was erected for at least three months before they started to deploy it.

Ah ha...just had a thought that my case might be blocking it, so did some googling and came up with magnetic clips on covers have been found to block signals reaching the antenna. Advised to remove case, switch off and re-boot.....

My case has a magnetic clip, so tried that . Result = Gone from 1 bar before to none now!

If you call BT they can actually install a telephone right there in your home. Its amazing!

They can even put it right by the telly so you don't have to lean out the upstairs window to make a call

Mad!

And it has a wire on it, so you don't lose it.

If you call ee they will send out a box to plug in at home to boost the signal. Mine has arrived but I haven't plugged it in yet but will let you know if it works

Had you stayed with Three, you could have simply downloaded an app to your phone which would have allowed you to connect to your home WiFi and seamlessly continued to make calls and texts on your phone whilst at home.

We've got one - seems to work pretty well to be fair. Still annoying to get nothing outside of the house though.

Me mother who also lives on Wildwood is with Virgin. She rang them in the same way I rang EE but they don't do them apparently :(

If you are on a pay monthly contract with EE they now do wifi calling if your handset is capable. Calls are routed through your broadband connection.

Although you have to remember that if you take a call you can't walk out of range of your WIFI as the call will drop.

This sounds rather like what we used to call a "telephone line".

Too true. Personally I'd sooner have fast 3G at work and home rather than 4G at work and nothing at home.

But then I live near all the NIMBYs in Walton on the hill, so i'm lucky to even have broadband.
