Not all the weaponry on display was ultra-modern.

And I discovered that we have a Gurkha temple.

The Wombat is still there - I reckon it would just clear the roof..

We took the kids and had a really nice time. I would say if you are a family living in Stafford its a no brainer attending this event.
The Spitfire was fantastic. I don't think I've ever seen one in the air before. It was worth going just for that.

My only grumble would be where the car park exit is on the bend. I couldn't see either way when pulling out on to beaconside without nudging the car out in to the road - nerve racking, especially when you have the kids on board.

Where was that? I used the Main Gate* and people seemed to have had no problem there, due to the traffic lights covering the situation.

*I was actually on foot, but did witness the vehicular traffic.

I had a great day, although very long. I'm exhausted and quite sun burnt! Most of you who went today probably walked past me or came to say hello :)

Great day! Highlight letting the kids sit in the Midland Air Ambulance then within 10 minutes watch it take off from 10 metres away watch it do a loop of the ground then disappear. Never bumped into more people I know at one event!

If you drove they didn't want you coming in the main gate. You entered much further down the road on the bend before the tech park. This was the way I was directed to leave as well. It was fine to enter, but personally I thought it was dangerous to use it as an exit.

I did see a discarded flyer on the way to the boot sale this morning and stupidly thought that I could just remember the details. When I realised that I had failed to retain the information reliably, I resolved to pick it up on the way home - only to discover that a litter-picking team had been along the Isabel Trail before my return trip..

I think that it said at was on November 1st, which is a Thursday this year, gates open from 5:30pm - but I could well be wrong.

I see, on the back of the programme ,that there is a Bonfire & Fireworks Display at 5.30pm on 3rd November. Hopefully they will be serving some Gurka food then for me to give it a bash ;)
So there is a precedent for it being on a Thursday. November 3rd was a Thursday last year..

The fireworks display this year is the 6th nov, this is always a Thursday event as I do the greenman hixon display the following night for my own charity. Both displays are excellent with both raising monies for worthy causes.

We do both displays free to each fund raiser. They are the only professional displays we do each year and the rest of my team is a mix of fully trained and seasoned personnel that I have worked with for several years from the mod and my local team in hixon.

The mod event raises money for local Stafford charities as does the open day that this thread discusses. It is excellent fund raisers.

For my sins i'm the chairman of the CHEF committee. ... charity for hixon elderly folk that raises monies to provide a Christmas party each year for c.96 people that includes free 3 course dinner, free drink, free entertainment, free prize bingo and raffle..... we work throughout the year to accomplish this. Last weekend we held the second annual music festival which was a great success and will happen each year from now on.

I will start a separate thread for the fireworks events. Thanks to all the people that have supported us for many years. .. We hope you enjoy your time with us on these events.
