MOD Stafford Open Day.

Antimony

Newbie
I can't find any details for this event other than the date - 3rd September 2011.

Does anyone know more? When's it open, what's it cost and what will be there?

Heard the RAF Falcons parachute team are dropping in but that's the only info I have.

Any additional info much appreciated.

Cheers,
Antimony

September the Third at 11am? Didn't something else start at that time? But lasted a good bit beyond half five....

Was it the declaration of the Purple Helmet Display Team?

Well, that was fairly good. I might put some pictures up later. The highlight for me was the Gurkha Food Stall and finding a Wombat.

Parachutists, Dancing Diggers, plus loads more to entertain the troops - and civilians.

The 'manoeuvring a hoop along a wire without touching it' stall was particularly good - it involved controlling a hydraulic crane to move the hoop!!..

Just a follow up ref: Raf stafford, Had a really great day, Grandson was totally entertained with the JCB dancing diggers, saw two performances. First time i've been there and i must say it,s the best day out i've had in a long time, very well organised with lots to see and do.
Congratulations Raf Stafford.

Saw some folks dropping from the sky when driving through Stafford today. Would have attended if I'd known about it earlier.

I found an old Wessex....

...a ladies anti-aircraft gun...

.. and a Wombat - strange weapon, it did more damage where you fired it from than where it came down.

We had a great day out!

Was tempted to try the Gurka food , but not being very adventureous had a lovely Hog Roast instead.

My favourite was stroking the police dog :D and the police stand where Son enjoyed handling the police guns, as well as watching the parachutists which have got to have been the highlight of the day.

Watching a film of their work in 'The Tactical Supply Wing' exhibition opened my eyes to just how much the unit does. Never thought about them installing things like inflatable petrol tanks, holding 10,000 gallons, and able to re-fuel helicopters within 4 minutes of landing !

Wimp! It was great stuff, and I look forward to Stafford's first Gurkha restaurant. I even managed to answer politely when asked if my dumplings were OK.

The Gurkha chicks certainly brightened the place up, too.
