Did a bit time around that way as a kid staying with my Old Dear's family. We'd travel via ferry to Dún Laoghaire then down to Limerick Junction by train. Then believe it or not, a pony and trap going up through Doon to the hills. I was there in the 90's walking a quite spectacular mountain called Galtymore which I'd seen many times as a kid from the hill farm, far off in the distance. It's a 3000 footer in the centre of a large flat plain, so very prominent.
