I thought that was part of Dennis Bunning's collection as he owned the building and the dealership. There were many, many more bikes there when it was the Land Rover dealership.
Possibly. There was a very early Reliant in there at one time and I was told that was Phil's, maybe I over-interpolated from that, or maybe it was a 'guest' - or not his at all?

Enjoying a drop of red.

Mum and dad know the Bunnings and can confirm the above.

This was there for a while. That may be what misled me.

Ah yes the Mecca. Was it Ron who would wander off into a dark Aladdin like cave for a BSA C11G head gasket set and come back, slap it on the counter and say: "There you are me old China ..."

The Mecca was famously on Mill Street, but before that it was on Market Street, pretty much next door to Lloyds Bank, before all that side was rebuilt. Kept some of the old bangers I was riding throughout the 60's going. (Triumph Tiger 100, BSA C11G, BSA A7 and A10. Ariel Red Hunter, BSA B32, Norton ES2 .... and on and on ...)
He sold me what must have been the last two BSA Beagle clutch plates in the known universe for 2 quid.

Wow, learnt so much here, thanks everyone. I’ll go back to my Dad, but not expecting much off him.

I can only go back to the late 1970’s/early 80’s, and towards the end of Gaol Road, was Paul (not to be confused with Henry) Burton bikes (before he moved further down Gaol Rd towards the town.

Paul Burton's shop was on this grassed area here around 1978/9 - it had some structural issues and was demolished in the end.

I remember Stafford Kawasaki there, but I wasn't aware that it was him - the Browning Street Place was mostly a Reliant operation.

After the old boy retired and he stopped doing MOTs, I went to Jack Taylor in Newport - a 'fair' test and you got a certificate embossed with "Jack Taylor, Toys & Cycles" - he stopped when the rolling road became a requirement and I went to Wheaton Aston then.

There was also Windmill, mostly a Yamaha operation, and Adderley's, by the Grapes.
I think I got my motorbike MOT'd at Jack Taylor's too, probably about 1984. My boyfriend said he knew somewhere that would be more forgiving for the test, and I do remember having to walk through a toy shop to get to the office at the back.

I think it was one of these - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.7...4!1sBo_Nq-RCPhOAT0yT_EIepA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 - you left your bike in a little pull-in, possibly where the bin is, dropped your keys into the shop and went for a little walk round the town, coming back to the quaintest MOT certificate. They gave up when the rolling road became compulsory. They had started in the early days because they sold the odd Raleigh Wisp-type thing, I suppose.
