Move to Stafford.

Hi everyone, I've joined this forum to ask for people's advice.
We are a family of 4 currently living down south in Essex.
We have recently visited Stafford and have fell in love with the area so much so that we are now considering moving up later this year.
We are looking at renting in the surrounding areas of town centre but obviously don't know the area that well.
My question is are there any areas we should avoid?
Many thanks.

A lot can depend on what you like/dislike, want, need, etc. There are areas where the motorway/railway noise might bother some people, but not be an issue to others. There can be frustrations, if you find yourself needing to drive across the town every day, when you could be living on that side in the first place. The choices will be largely personal, and vary for different people.

There are few 'dodgy' areas, and they are fairly self-evident.

There have been several threads in the Forum about people wanting to move to Stafford.

Just search for 'Moving', and tick the 'Search titles only' box.

You will get some people telling you not to live here, but if you want to then you should.

Do you want to live in the town or in a surrounding village?
We are looking at staying out of town centre and aiming more at surrounding areas.

Stafford! That's where id avoid :)

I live here, I don't like its narrow minded car focused Conservative ways.

The best part of Stafford is its a great place to get away from, brilliant train service and 4 airports within an hour or so!

Why did you like Stafford may I ask?

What age are your children? Most villages have primary schools but they get bused into Stafford

But isn't Penkridge a town, not a village ?
Alas no. Would be much better off if it got the status of a small market town but all the old fogies rabbit on about having been born & brought up in a village and not wanting to live in a town.

Although I haven't lived in Stafford for 33 years, I was born and bred there. I don't remember there being 'places to avoid' in the sense of the Bronx and Brooklyn in 1960s/1970s New York. Having said that you should avoid the place shown in the pix below. I can't tell you exactly where it is, because it's very nature is to distort time and space and literally suck itself out of this Universe to 'another place.' Perhaps even Penkridge, or every one of 10 to the power of 500 other Universes in the landscape of the Multiverse !!
...or
..... wait a minute, what the f... am I talking about ? :tumbleweed:

I will say one thing that you can take to the bank: this glass of Bailey's with a shot of Captain Morgan's Spicy Rum in it opens all kind of hidden doors in your head .... 🥃🥃:heyhey:

There was The Rec, which was worth avoiding when the Blue Pig was about, but that hasn't been seen since the last Norwegian sailor was sent south.

There are some rough areas but also some really nice areas. A family member lives in 'The Village' in Weeping Cross and it's lovely up there.

Anywhere within a 10-15 minute walk of the castle might be good to look into.
