I still think this is one of the best openings to any western I've ever seen. Clint Eastwood showing his directorial metal at an early stage. The question asked over the years has been: "Who was he ..?" Some say he was the brother of the murdered sheriff! I read Clint Eastwood's answer to this question in an interview, typically laconic: "You have to figure it out for yourself."
I've always thought he was the devil himself, none other than Old Nick .. given special dispensation by God to go down and administer punishment to a town with a dark murderous past. There are some clues to this idea as it goes on.
Regardless of how you see it, what you do know just from this opening scene ... is that this town is in deep shit.

Saw this on Facebook and I know it's not a movie clip, but the way the script pretty much goes down the pan and then they both start adlibbing and laughing clearly works for this audience, and me too.

I don't know if it actually should be called a 'blooper' because this is what live shows on stage are all about ...

Having walked into bars in a number of .. shall we say 'dubious' parts of the world, I always imagined to myself that it went like this:

... although it usually went like this:

I used to like watching these films at the Sandonia when I was a kid. We might laugh at the special effects these days, but they were good enough for us back then. Some were probably X rated but that didn't mean much at the San. If you weren't in a pram, you were old enough.
Sat on those hard benches down in the bunny runs, you'd lap up Godzilla stomping on Tokyo on a weekly basis ....
Seeing how they did it is an example of Japanese ingenuity and model building ....

It’s Showtime ! I love this number with Nathan Lane and the ‘old ladies’ wacky dance routine (complete with walking frames) in the musical remake of Mel Brooks The Producers. I would imagine the ‘cheque grabbing’ scene towards the end probably took many ‘takes’.

One thing I'll say about the Coen Brothers. They know how to end a film .... (vastly superior to the John Wayne version, faithful to the book.)
