Excellent.
Get next door in the City Arms if you've got time.
And you're less than a five minute walk from the Old Monkey, Circus Tavern and Grey Horse on Portland Street, all Proper Pubs.

Yes all really great pubs but I have avoided the Circus since COVID because it is so crammed despite usually meeting friends there before the game.

We also use the Bull's Head by Piccadilly quite frequently before catching a train home.

Ahh the Blue Ball in Wolverhampton. At one time they would re-enact the Battle of Marston Moor every Friday night and the Fire Brigade would come next day and hose the blood and gunge off the walls (... which were conveniently tiled.)

Then there was Fairley's at the top of Leith Walk in Edinburgh. Here they would re-enact the Battle of Bannockburn most nights. Being English I would stand to one side back to the wall saying: "Och aye. See yoooz Jimmy. Ken what a mean ?' which usually got me safely out of the door.

Anybody remember the Black Horse in Hanley. Good bikers pub. They had a sign on the door which said: 'No car drivers' although it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, although if one came in his head usually ended up on a spike in the bike park.

All gone now I think.

Then there were some really great girly bars in Venezuela .... but that's another story. :heyhey:

Regarding the Manchester pubs you've mentioned here ;
Circus Tavern - I first used it in October 1975 on a coach trip, the leaflet for which described it as "Magnificent micropub", probably the first recorded usage of that now very familiar word. I still get there quite often in normal times, including eight pints during 2019.
Bulls Head - I've known for forty years, a Burtonwood pub back then, but by far the best and most convenient Proper Pub for Piccadilly railway station was the Coach and Horses which was demolished for the trams.
Waterhouse - The only time I've used it was in May 2011 with my wife and daughter who wanted something to eat. I don't go to Manchester, or anywhere else, for Tim's venues and at breakfast time will use Stonegate's Lost Dene or more likely Lees's Duttons.

Visited the Brewhouse and Kitchen (formerly the Forest House) in Chester on Saturday night and sampled a few of their beers which are brewed on site.

All good pints and interesting building.

Caught part of a programme called Mighty Cruise ships today and one had its own microbrewery on board. Have you been to that one @Mudgie?

I think it was called Carnival Vista or something similar.

So, @Mudgie and everyone else, what can you tell me about Stafford/Staffordshire most haunted pubs..... Why do so many appear to be haunted? Is it because they've been there years and years so have lots of history, or a place where hangings took place, or because of the clientele?

Give me some interesting facts about pubs!

No, but people "see" or otherwise "sense" ghosts so it is interesting to investigate what & why. The problem is everything nowadays is messed up by mediums & psychics inventing a load of rubbish for money.

There's no such thing as evil spirits or anomalies, either.

All just stuff and nonsense or marketing.

You'll be saying there's no such thing as slimy green blob aliens with strange experimental probes which they use on people after abducting them when they're on their way home from the pub next.

Shouldn't you be getting pissed and saying 'hello sailor' on your lads night out?
