Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

Been watching the news featuring rain, thunderstorms and floods in parts of UK.
Gone a bit breezier today and cooled down a bit , but apart from a few random spots for a few seconds yesterday there's no sign of that wet stuff here yet.

Don't know whether I've over watered the office plant which survived years and years at work, or if it didn't like the 48C in the conservatory the other day. It's only been in my care for 5 weeks and looks like I've killed it off :hmm:

Think it'll bounce back?

Edit.....just tried to tidy it up , lots of the droopy stalks / stems things with dead leaves attached are stuck on fast. Am I supposed to cut the whole lots off in the hope new stems sprout in their place? Or just pull the dead leaves off and leave the the stalks hoping leaves suddenly start growing on them again ? Or just leave it as it is and hope for a miracle coming to life of the brown dead droopy parts?
As you can see I know as much about looking after plants as I do computers !

The dentist who rang us last week to say we were "now in with us NHS" denied ever calling us last week saying not taking NHS on.

Kind of glad because found another dentist. Lovely receptionist, and actually got to speak to the dentist as he was at the desk as well. Apart from the receptionist , think I was the only white face in the area. But managed to just about understand the dentist so fingers crossed he's a good un. And the sari clad patients coming out had a smile on the faces and let me come in through the door first , rather than racing out in fear. ...No big fancy building or waiting room. Just an old fashioned house with the front room for the reception area . Hopefully they have the modern equipment , I kind of imagine the back room looking like in the museums 😂

Not looking forwards to the new patient examination , but hey-ho , so glad to have found one I forgot all about being petrified for a few moments handing the forms in. Will be sh1tting myself when I have to go through those doors again soon though ! 😂

Helped to show that I have started getting my bearings around these parts now. Hubby was supposed to have programmed the satnav for me , but I soon realised as I was on my way that he'd done it wrong! So partly from a bit of the way being familiar from uni days, and my guess work not going so horribly wrong, I got there by discovering new routes through new territory. Then I dared come back exploring another way . Proud of myself :D

If I had my way I'd have gone to sons good private dentist. but hubby would have none of it! :( He's got toothache at the moment though , so if he gets to experience their dentistry first he might change his mind...
Believe me, private dentist is the way to go, mine is amazing...

Son's private dentist is amazing as well. I'd planned to get in there, especially with me having lots of work done in the past and got bridges on retainers etc which my Stafford dentist warned won't last forever. But it caused an argument about me throwing our money away willy nilly when we could go NHS...

Hubby has raging toothache tonight. If this new NHS one can't get him in tomorrow, I've got a feeling he'll change his mind about being a skinflint and not wanting private, and fork out for him to be pain free if a private one can sort him out straight away.

Still raining here , bucketed it down for over an hour but just back to raining steadily now. Have you had the rain in Stafford today?

Right it's cider time ...... need to start on the small amount of weekly units disclosed on the forms ;)

Decided I really must be a jinx everywhere I go. GP on monday advised going to a smaller pharmacy who would dispense prescriptions quicker, and gave me postcode to find my way. Never been anywhere near that area before then. Main headlines in Worcester paper today show fire crews attending to a bollard fire (electrics caused it) exactly where I parked up .

Today I started a bit of work on an aerial, which I've been at all week. Because of the hot weather, I sort of take it easy, the minute I feel a bit 'tired and shagged out after a long squawk' I stop, this is 'chemo life.'
However I noticed an external overflow pipe dripping water, slowly admitted, but dripping nonetheless. When you're on a meter, which by the way is the best thing I ever did with regard to water, you get a bit psycho about these things, and now being in an official drought area, doesn't help.
So, a toilet cistern is overflowing, lift the lid up, ball cock valve isn't shutting, only a drip admitted, but it isn't shutting. (When you look into a toilet cistern, don't be surprised if it looks like something out of a Wes Craven horror movie.) Been in this place for 31 years, so this cistern valve is at least that old, which to be fair, isn't bad.
So, order a new ballcock and valve from Amazon which will be here tomorrow. But, want to stop the drip.
Now the cistern flush feeds directly off the cold water tank in the loft. I could shut the main stop valve, and let the tank drip out, but, that rankles me, and would take forever anyway, or just run it out, which kind of defeats the object with regard to wasting water.
Fortunately, 10 years ago I fitted a power shower, (no I'm not a plumber, but after an engine room .... house plumbing is a piece of piss.) When I fitted the power shower I ran a cold water supply directly from the cold water tank, yes, I had to drain the tank to do that, but while it was empty, I fitted valves to new power shower supply pipe, and fitted a valve to the primary cold water supply to everything else in house (except the kitchen cold water tap, which runs off the main) from the tank.
(RULE Nr 1 ... YOU CAN'T HAVE TOO MANY VALVES. THIS IS ENGINE ROOM TRAINING.)
So it was easy to shut off the toilet cistern supply temporarily, disconnect the 15mm supply pipe, cut it off and fit an inline valve (remember RULE Nr 1, see above.) Had several spare valves left over from the power shower fit, and got a pretty fair amount of plumbers kit in house now (although I'll be the first to admit, my pipe bending skills are ... shall we say .. artistic.) Now I can frig around with the cistern as much as I like (might fit some kind nuclear powered pump, or maybe a beam transporter, that beams product into the centre of the Sun. Not sure what sort of shit storm that might cause though.)
Behold a simple inline valve that makes life easier .... (I REPEAT, RULE Nr 1.)

(Yeah yeah, I am going to clean it up when I've finished it. But I ask you, lift of the lid on your toilet cistern, tell me you're not afraid ... very afraid. :urgh:)

It's ALevel results day!

How do I know?

Well as usual I was unable to sleep, up at 5am after dreaming I was lost in school unable to find any of my students and bursting into tears!

To top it off my log in isn't working!!

Pity we haven't got the glorious sunshine today that we've mostly had since we moved here. Hope you've had a good day and evening :)
Are you staying overnight @Thehooperman ? You may recognise someone about town in the morning if you are :D
Yes stayed over and now have a sore head after visiting a number of local beverage establishments after the races.

I'm glad it wasn't too hot because whilst it's nice for humans it's not for the horses.

When Severn Trent man had fixed our massive external burst, he noticed the meter was still going around at rate of 12 litres a day with nothing switched on in house. He said it could be overflowing loo into the cistern, and sure enough late at night when it was really quiet I could hear drips behind the loo panel.
Plumber going to look at that now as well later , as well as fitting new internal stop tap ( won't switch off at all)and slight leak on pipe near to it.
Going to ask him if he knows why our hot tank is still getting hot despite central heating unit being off , emmersion heater switch off , and hot water switch in electric box tripped to off.

If he's non the wiser I shall be back with photos of the complicated looking set up for you nice forumites to hopefully give ideas.

Standing outside dentist at the moment, listening for hubby's screams. First day on their books and he's had to have an emergency appointment.
Luckily I came to drive him, along with my handbag to get a burger afterwards ... he forgot his wallet

Should have put suncream on instead of a cardy, it's sunny and hot again now

Will he fit you a Surestop? It's a switch that works the same way as the ISV. Good if it's stiff/hard to get to.

The tap is easily accessible, just furred completely up.
Aaaargh!!! Sods law.....been waiting over a week for this afternoon plumber appointment. Still standing outside dentist , hubby hasn't even gone in yet, and plumber phones...he's turned up early ( I'd told him there's always someone in as hubby works from home.....hubby should have bloody learnt the way by now and driven here himself!)
