Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

Going to give driving back to Stafford tonight a miss, I think. Very early start tomorrow seems preferable as even if it's still snowy and icy, there'll be less arseholes on the road to make a bad situation worse.

So, time to open a bottle of wine.

I've been dragged* into the office tomorrow, so I better set my alarm early given I'm likely to have to spend 10 minutes defrosting.

*I say dragged, 2 of my favourite stakeholders want to do a face to face workshop and I agreed. Only problem is I need to go in 3 times next week.

Some people have all the luck...

Good job the manager is there, an earlier time people were trapped there the owners couldn't get back to the pub and those trapped there consumed a lot of food & drink and left no money when they were rescued. The owners went bust.
I have had the odd drink in the pub in sunnier times.

So it's been an interesting few days...

Due to storm Arwen we lost power and phone signal on Friday and electric is still not back on!

Which means it's been a fun few days without heating or hot water! We're also snowed in, BUT (every cloud!) It means the contents of my freezer are in a plastic storage container buried in the snow!!

I've had a great birthday and very grateful for the vintage gramaphone I purchased via the form many years ago which has kept us dancing by candlelight!!

But I'm starting to feel like I'm on one of those TV show where they send a family 'back in time' and make them live like it's the 1800's....

The roads being not as bad as expected and hardly any traffic around resulted in is reaching out destination an hour earlier than expected. So went to the Three Fish, which was the only place open at that time of the morning and jr and I had an unlimited full English, which against expectation was rather nice. I will probably not be having much in the way of food for the rest of the day now.

Is that the ex-Whitbread Three Fishes in Shrewsbury, run some years ago by a rather ill tempered ex military bloke who introduced a non smoking policy before it was a legal requirement ?

The then gaffer at my old local The Crown at Hyde Lea at that time(Wayne Massey) did the same. Made absolutely no difference to his trade.
The Three Fishes immediately lost 30% of their business but there's no two pubs the same.
I remember Patrick and Edna Kaine being excellent licensees of the Crown during the 1980s. He installed more handpumps to increase his cask beers to four but Bass Worthington then reduced the range available.

Unlimited food?

Surely it should be the Two Loaves and Five Fishes?

Had a little walk around Llandudno after the cloud and mist lifted. Forecast is still saying overcast and rain but thankfully it's totally incorrect.

Now sitting in a pub having a spot of late lunch and they're playing Chrimbo songs.

So far I've taught the locals the words to United songs like "Feed the scousers let them know it's Christmas time" and "on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me an Eric Cantona".

I've not even had a beer yet either 😁

Since when have ASDA and Tesco been closed overnight? Decided go ASDA get a few bits, due to being wide awake because i'm on night mode. There's a few cars on the car park, I can see staff inside, but they're closed. Same with Tesco.
Sod it, I'll go Sainsburys early on, at least the staff in there are pleased see me.

I think they both started shutting overnight at the beginning of covid, mostly to allow staff to restock shelves without them being crowded by shoppers clamoring for loo roll.

So many forumites about in the small hours tonight. I'm still awake as I'm too excited to sleep. OH checked his email just before bed and got the news that we have a new house. Not even seen it yet lol. My brain is now alternating between excitement and anxiety. All the things that need doing, all the things we can't do till we see it.:bananarock::lorks::yay::eek::q:

It was quite windy here overnight, again, and there's a rather sharp breeze this morning, but I was still somewhat surprised to find a cement mixer in the drive just now.
