Anyone know where those concert-style search lights are coming from up near Beaconside? They look to be towards Tixall when observed from Kingston Hill
Probably this

There's been some towards Sundown Drive when I've driven up the 518 twice in the last week. The first time I could see them from Gnosall. I guess that could be Shugborough too but seems a bit far.

Luminate is a Winter Light Trail at Shugborough which started last Friday and finishes on New Year’s Eve. There are spotlights along the route which is what people have been seeing the last few nights.

I thought spotlights were for theatres, not the countryside.

I brought my small lathe over with me this time. It'll be a while before it's all going again, but a start has been made on refurbishing it, after some years of disuse.

I dismantled, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled the chucks. The four-jaw is a simple affair, with independent jaws, but the the three-jaw, with synchronised jaws, is a little more intricate.

All is back together and working nicely now. Many years ago, I modified the large drill to mount the chucks on, for use as a reasonably accurate dividing head.

In other news, I left the cat snoozing in the kitchen for a couple of hours and, going back for some lunch just now, she indicated a wish to go out, so I did door duty for her. I then noticed that the radio, though on, was silent. This happens occasionally with some transmitter issues. I waited a while, to see if it came back, then investigated if the other stations were down - they all were - this is unusual, as one of the other memorised stations comes from a separate transmitter. So, it looked to see it the 'mute' was on - it was not. Eventually, I found that the volume had been turned down to zero. There is only one suspect available for this action.

It has happened before, but I didn't notice if it could have been her that time.
