Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

My old Walton school motto 'Persevere' kicked in today as I spent 4 hrs hanging on in 2 phone queues for hubby on the phone to HMRC while he was busy working. He was just there to do the actual speaking to them once they answered. I finished a 500 piece jigsaw in that time!

After getting through to 1st advisor amazingly quickly after 30 minutes, then found out hubbys 'not yet calculated 2023-2024 ' message on the HMRC Gateway system was actually because it had a blip in the system. Calculated in seconds by advisor , confirming my figures were correct..........but he couldn't actually issue refund.
Gave another number to ring...... worth that persevering though , whilst hoping lots in the massive queue in front of me would get fed up and hang up, as suddenly had a shock when the recorded messages suddenly changed to a human voice after hours.
But even then , with the big refund calculations being entered onto system by 1st advisor, 2nd advisor agreed it could be sent out but he could only actually refund by a cheque:ohno: which I don't trust to reach us with our rubbish posties.

So hopefully appears on online system tomorrow to claim a refund into bank as he's promised it will...............

Scam texts and emails...

I seem to get very few, perhaps I'm not worth targeting?

I do, however, get almost daily emails from HMRC about filing my tax return and making the necessary payment before the deadline, which is fast approaching. These have the 'look' of a facsimile scam, as they threaten me with consequences for an action that I took many months ago - the return is filed and the payment made. I got yet another this morning, a step more aggressive than they have been. You have to read through for the "If you have since filed and paid or have no actions to take" bit.

It seems reasonable to expect that an organisation funded by money falling from the sky might be able to connect its systems up*, rather than making it easier for people to construct false emails to fool innocent parties.

I felt obliged to recheck that I do possess evidence of the pointlessness of all these emails.

* But then, they did once try to charge me £100 for a late submission, despite having sent me an assessment, based on the 'late' submission, but dated before the deadline...
Perhaps you’ve not been on LinkedIn and met Inked Lynn, the friendly lady from near Stafford who trades in crypto currency

Who is in fact a prisoner in a giant pig butchering prison in the Philippines

To be fair, the pigs are usually younger and very tech savvy, but not quite savvy enough

A million plus scammers working on us all every minute of every day, is it only a matter of time?

4 days into being effectively a single parent* and I have utmost respect for anyone that does this full time. If I didn't have my mum to help I'd have been screwed, trying to juggle a job with a child (and 2 dogs) is a nightmare and I have it easy as I work from home. Tried to extend nursery hours but they have no spare capacity at short notice, and TBH the cost aint that far off my wages anyway so is it really worth it?

* Not single, don't worry, but wifey is temporarily otherwise engaged. See emergency trip to airport above
Today is my last day, I'm off to Latvia in a bit so he can see his mum again. Knackered is an understatement and I've had help from my mum, can't imagine how some manage on their own. Eric has been (mostly) amazing, night times are an issue at times but he's took it all in his stride, and he's developed a much closer bond with nanny which is great as he was always wary of her for some weird reason!

We looked at newbuild , but types being released ready for aug/Sept finish are titchy.
Wouldn't even fit our settee in , never mind the chairs. Could choose a plot on the plan for bigger one , but next year til that's due.
Thats our emergency reserve plan....

Got met after work by youngest, only time he does that is when he's after sumat. So turns out we were going KFC. He knows his old Mum well, I never turn one of those down.
Well, we're sat there, stuffing our faces, when in walks a young lad, red tracksuit, crotch of the trousers hanging down by the knees etc. He goes the loo and then walks back out. 5 minutes later, another lad comes in, exactly same style of clothes as previous bloke, but in Navy blue. He too goes straight in the loo, then back out again. Youngest reckons it was a drug deal. Wouldn't know, just think youngsters these days look bloody ridiculous with their undies showing and the arse end hanging down by their knees.

Glam,
But is it really much different from sixty to fifty years ago when teenage boys grew their hair very long and teenage girls wore their skirts very short just to annoy folk of about the age we are now ?
