Afraid I'm way too paranoid. If that bloke hadn't shown me any ID I'd have been way more bothered that a strange man had come over and started asking/advising me on security out of the blue. Luckily(?) car security is not something I need to worry about.Bit of a panic stations tonight !
Wondered what I'd done wrong as I parked up in our Tesco carpark tonight and a man came over as I was getting out of the car. "Can I have a word , I'm a policeman"![]()
Then proceeded to say he'd seen me putting my steering lock on , but wanted to point out car thieves could saw through that type in a few minutes. Good that I'd actually bothered to put it on , as looking around the carpark I was the only one who had . But showed me the type he had , a Disklok and said they're the only ones the police would recommend as any good (but don't lose the keys!)
Demonstated on his car how it went on as well for if I got one . Also warned about signal jammers , my faraday pouch was at home.... (will have to start taking out with me as well as using in the house!)
I mentioned about the time on that car park both mine and hubbys key fobs stopped working on the old car as we went to lock it , locked it with my manual key instead, but both key fobs worked when we came out of the shop and worked ever since with no probs.
He said, as mentioned on this forum at the time , most likely signal jammers as they operate a lot on that carpark.
Drive a car just months away from the scrap yard and you won't need to bother about a steering lock - that's my advice.Bit of a panic stations tonight !

I rarely locked my focus, do tend to with the i40 as it looks more expensive.Drive a car just months away from the scrap yard and you won't need to bother about a steering lock - that's my advice.
Many moons ago whenever I parked up I used take the keys out of the ignition and drop them in the footwell.I rarely locked my focus, do tend to with the i40 as it looks more expensive.
I knew someone in Eccleshall who never took the keys out of the ignition for the whole time she had a car, in case she lost them. Many moons ago whenever I parked up I used take the keys out of the ignition and drop them in the footwell.
My gran used to live in one of the 3 original little cottages on Tixall road , by The Gate pub ( as it was called then). How times have changed.
When we lived at Moddershall, Mum would leave the key in the outside of the door lock during the day, only removing it when she went to bed. If Mum & Dad went out and one of us would be home before they got back, then they would hang it on a nail which was covered only by a floor cloth. Said it was easier for us kids and she didn't have to keep opening it all the time for us. Plus, we had nothing of monetary value to nick.My gran used to live in one of the 3 original little cottages on Tixall road , by The Gate pub ( as it was called then).
Not once did she lock her front door which was almost in reach of the pavement , even when she went to bed.
Times certainly changed!
