Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

Went to see my new dentist yesterday who I am now convinced is a psychopath after subjecting me to a thorough teeth cleaning despite saying I didn't need it. It was *SO* painful!

Weirdly, the electrified feeling in my gums afterwards was quite invigorating as much as it was uncomfortable. I felt like I'd been flossing with exposed wires and brushing with a cattle prod.
Hope you are feeling better today @SketchyMagpie

We have a new store manager, the new store manager is a fellow Geordie, with a very strong accent... I don't hear anything he says apart from the lovely accent, I'm going to up my forcing of the carer to watch 'Vera' & 'Hairy Bikers' in the hope he'll move us back there.... Trouble us the carer talks all the way through 'Vera' 🙄🤬

(A day late through being knackered.)
Storm Arwen busted out a whip aerial on the apex of my roof. I had a replacement but found it too had cracked barrel brackets on the bottom section, much corroded from pre-use on the roof. So I endeavoured to repair it, first with a coast of varnish on the cracked brackets, then heavy duty shrink wrap and then stainless steel jubilee clips on the barrel sections of the joints. Finally a coat of silicon sealant which is basically a sort 'f*** off Atlantic corrosion' symbol (stainless steel isn't what it used to be.)
Final job was getting it up, and I'm not quite the roof dancer I used to be, it's more of a roof slither these days. However yesterday was bright sunshine, which dries out the roof and stops me from doing Eddie the Eagle impressions as I hurtle to my doom. Got the whip up and fastened with only one or two moments of pure terror, the whip is over 5 metres in length and although light, isn't easy to handle when you're trying to get bolts into place.
But, it's up, working well and I'm going to test it on transmission with RBN tomorrow ... (RBN stands for Reverse Beacon Network, a system which constantly monitors the Ham bands and records any transmission it hears so you can look up your callsign and see how well you're going up into the sky.)
I am getting a bit old for ladder roof work, but I still got it, so Atlantics storms ....... kiss my ****.

PS: The worst part of roof work is that I have a bunch of teenage hooligan seagulls who persist in hanging out on the apex of my roof, and who leave deposits thereon. Slithering through that on my backside isn't that much fun.

The whip in question is the one near the apex:

Thirty years ago I remember someone saying "I've never seen a stainless steel that won't rust!"

To stop blackbirds (mostly) sitting on the backs of garden benches and seats, and then introducing an extra 'h' into that sentence, I generally run a wire across the back, about an inch up, it makes it quite awkward to land there or stand comfortably afterwards - they soon give up and go elsewhere. Maybe a wire, or two, stretched along the apex, a couple of inches up, would deter your lavatorial friends? If you look at the average roof, the greatest growth is always under the TV aerial, from the fertiliser donated by the perching birds.

Fortunately all my tv aerials are inside the attic, as the signal is good. Stiff vertical aerials are a bit challenging but crows go for it anyway. Flexy whips ? .... bird proof.

'My' crows have, so far, decided not to vandalise the FM aerial on the Shed, possibly in return for the facility that I provide for them to warm up their feet whilst divesting themselves of passengers.

I was today days old when I realised Mark Curry (Blue Peter) is from Stafford.

Also, for some strange reason, Yvette Fielding (Blue Peter, some weird ghost thing) appears to be stalking me on Facebook.....

..... I don't think I'm a ghost? 👻👻👻

Ooooo-eeerrr :hmm:Getting a bit scared now after discussions with hubby , talking to estate agents today , and realising relocating could realistically be on the cards sometime in the not too distant future . Bought our house over 41 years ago when we got married , and going to be a massive thing for us when we do eventually make that move ! Takes me ages to pack for holidays, and put everything back away again when we get back. Can't imagine having to pack up and unpack a whole house load.

When I moved here I found a box I'd packed moving house in Southampton, that meant it had gone between 6 houses unopened!

Today still being dry, calm and (reasonably) warm, I decided to clean the shed chimney. Initially opening up access showed that it hardly needed doing, but I did it anyway - so for the rest of the winter, it can be left in peace. The extra-dry wood really is a great improvement.

After that, I decided to get the shopping out of the way for the next week or so. Half-way there, courtesy of the facial adornment of a driver going the other way, I realised that I had not brought my mask, still a requirement here. I do have a spare in the glove box, but I also had brought no means of payment, beyond the emergency fiver behind the sun visor. This is only the second time I've forgotten the mask since 'all this' started, and I forgot everything else that time, also.

When I returned to the car, after finally managing to arrive at the shop adequately equipped, it seemed that somebody had had quite a spillage in the car park, but the Grounds Maintenance Team were hard at it, cleaning it up.

I had a little blue tit tapping away at the kitchen windows this morning for over half an hour. Kept alternating from bottom to top window , but flying off into the tree before I could get photos each time.

They were very civilised about it - they just calmly walked round the edge of the pile, pecking at the best bits and chatting.

Are you sure it wasn't a long-tailed tit?

They can be bastards - they plagued me for months.
