Interesting thing about the CAP replacement, they're removing the need to actually farm. So if you own a load of land you're not doing anything with currently, the government will hand you cash to leave it to nature.

We're going to pay rich people to have private wilderness, when the point of the CAP was to keep people farming despite low profits (basically working tax credits for farmers) so we can still eat.

An old boy I meet in the pub is quite reliant on a stick these days. There has been an issue with his preferred stick lately and I fixed it (hopefully) the other day. Part of the process involved removing quite a bit of soil rammed inside the aluminium tubing, as a result of checking on his cattle, now that they are out in the fields.

Having collected the small handful of soil, I decided that I would dry it and return it to him, knowing the price of land these days...

We were sitting away from the main crowd last night, as I handed him the small plastic bag containing the resultant finely ground brown material. This transaction was spotted and there was considerable debate and interest about whatever we were up to. We simply refused to discuss the matter and let people's imaginations consume themselves.

It will be interesting to see how far this goes...

Arrived this morning, now to arrange the EU one. Just waiting out May 9th in case Putin is a bigger knut than thought.
Still no birth certificate back, and despite paying extra to ensure it was shipped properly no way to even acknowledge it was sent at all from the online portal. So I'm now in a queue holding up people that probably have pretty important queries themselves because our government seems to specify that all it's online systems must suck in some way.

EDIT: Finally got through. Woman at the passport office basically said good luck, we don't have a clue, I'd go get a duplicate birth certificate if I was you. Considering we paid extra for recorded return of it I'm not impressed.

Brings back memories of the interest the Wildwood carpark exchange created . People were dying to ask , but didn't... I left them wondering

Passport office: We lost it mate, go get a copy from the registry office
Registry office: Automated message, too busy, we won't do them, go to central gov. Call cuts off
Central gov: Less than 6 months ago? Nah mate, go back to registry office

Finally got a very helpful human who has arranged for a copy for me, cost £35 for the passport offices mistake but apparently thats just tough. In a month or so if it still hasn't arrived I can complain but that doesn't help me now, the woman said I was lucky I got the passport as quite a few have just been returned as not delivered lately.

Braved the cinema last night. Risky considering I probably haven't got a functioning immune system due to that damn covid vaccine!

FYI if you have O2 Priority Moments you can get a free cinema ticket for the Odeon on a Sunday or Monday. 1 ticket each week

£1 parking after 6pm at the multi-storey car park makes for a cheap evening!

So you didn't call in the Coach and Horses for a pint ?

Bit of a boring thing, but I had go Wilkos earlier, had a nose around, as you do. I am gobsmacked by how expensive deodorant has got. I paid just under 2 quid for a large can of Dove from Sainsburys a few weeks ago, Wilkos wanted £4 for the same can, Sainsburys wasn't even on special offer. Bloody daylight robbery!

Birth certificate replacement arrived this morning, great service from the Stoke registry office.

Next problem, can't pay for the AHC. The link says it's been paid, which I know I haven't. They only deal with email not phone calls so trying to get a response has been problematic until I posted something on FB, and my sister realised she'd been sent my payment link somehow! So she paid it, which is good from a getting it sorted on time POV but a little concerning from a GDPR one.

Well, yesterday .......
Realised Cannock Chase is going to be the one big thing I'll miss about living in these parts. Had what was probably my last walk over the Chase with son . Such a lovely enjoyable walk , although the only deer we saw were lying having a kip in a field on the way and son missed seeing them as he was driving. He made the stepping stones look easy . I was in danger of having wet feet , especially with someones collie deciding making friends with me in the water would be great fun .
He soon remembered my lack of navigation skills as we approached the top of a hill on our way back to the carpark. He said the look on my face contradicted my answer to his question "Do you actually know where you are going? " as I realised the killer hill we'd just struggled up wasn't the one I thought it was and I had no idea then which way the car was . I pretended I still knew the way, and was more suprised than him when his car came into view , as I'd been expecting to come out in a completely different place :D A lovely enjoyable sunny afternoon out, followed by a nice cool lemonade and half price meals in the pub. :)

You will have the Malvern Hills fairly close to - if you can find them.

I can remember several cases of people being lost overnight on the Chase in the 70s.

I used to go camping in Sherbrook Valley with mates in the 70's. I may have been one of those cases

Son goes to Malvern Hills , but says not a patch on the chase.

They're not but it's better than nothing.
Looking forwards to actually visiting , as I've never been. As well as all the walks nearby , as we will be living (hopefully, fingers crossed it all goes ok ) with countryside on our doorstep. Although might have to avoid one of sons routes, after seeing videos of him having to walk through a herd of cows blocking the gateway. I'm scared stiff off them!
