Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

You've obviously not been to Birmingham city centre recently. Pick a god and their paramilitary wing is out in force, shouting at you through their megaphones about how damned you are unless you sign up to their particular brand of religion. As bad as it was before COVID and just as unforgiving.

I quite enjoy throwing them the heavy metal horns when I walk past, the old guy usually tries to give me a leaflet and then whips it away in disgust.

Anyone know where in town that has the Yorkie orange chocolate bars? Tried Sainsburys and Tesco with no luck, none on Asda's site.

Glad I trust no-one and very scam aware !Just avoided a scam phone call to obtain my details. Supposedly Talk Talk ringing my mobile, asking my full name and password before they could discuss what they needed to with me. Told her no way was I giving my details to someone calling me, so she said to call back and she'd make a note that I was calling back as it was vital to speak to me about my account . Rang Talk Talk with the legit number I'd already got from my landline instead......they hadn't called me !

Rather clever seeing as I've been dealing with Talk Talk this week myself......... :hmm:

(Rang hubbys number afterwards from mobile to make sure wasn't still connected to the scammers .)

Since my bank went through loads and loads of questions with me about being scam aware , and saying phone numbers displayed could even be altered to appear like the legit ones, when I was in there doing transactions last , I even ring my solicitor back to make sure it's him

Now in Stourbridge having been strong armed into attending a clan gathering and driving 200 miles to do so. Tonight at the British Legion we'll drink, eat, chant, maybe boil up a virgin as part of the ritual.
Saying of the night: 'Oi ay a brummie.'
That's just yards along Enville Street from the Royal Exchange which is my favourite Stourbridge pub.
Beer writer Pete Brown needed telling 'Bathams ay Brummie' here ;

Aaaaargh! Panic stations this morning when I checked my bank balance .

Doing things the good old fashioned way the other day , I'd got a building society cheque to pay into the bank . Made sure I went to the cashier to pay it in , as I didn't trust the machine not to grab it & destroy all evidence of it....

Bloody thing's rejected because 'signature doesn't meet with the mandate' and money took back out again.

Now supposedly sorted (apparently mine wasn't the only cheque returned yesterday) and hopefully will be back in my account soon, Lesson learnt! Doing things the cheque-less way from now on.

After leaving my breakfast to hot foot it to town to get it sorted , was starving. First idea of a maccies didn't work out with queues right back to the door. Decided on a chippie from Boppin Dolphin instead....closed due to technical issues...

With blisters on my feet from new trainers I'd slung on in my panic , decided to catch the bus back. Missed the bloody thing by seconds, so hobbled back home instead.

Attempt to reheat the poached egg on toast ,still sitting on the kitchen side ,in the microwave went horribly wrong.

Hoping my luck changes and , fingers crossed, the money actually does re-appear back into my account .

Edit... Phew ! Money just arrived back in .

'signature doesn't meet with the mandate' is odd because signatures on cheques aren't checked.
"closed due to technical issues" covers all sorts of things, not that I'm one to speculate.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Not long back from a very enjoyable track day at Castle Combe. Never driven it before and I really loved the track, even though I ended up pointing the wrong way on a couple of occasions.

Sitting in the garden now waiting for the current Mrs p to bring tea. A bottle of red has just been opened. Sometimes life's so damn hard...

Impressive showers here today - first one appeared very suddenly - instant pressure washer stuff - I was trapped in the Greenhouse, it wasn't worth even attempting the few feet to the Shed. About eight more of them arrived later, evenly spaced through the day. Anybody working out in the open will have noticed them, I'm sure, and might mention it, if I manage to survive the journey to the pub later.

There looks to be one big shower left upwind, but that 'should' track north of here - after that, it's just small ones (at this stage in their development). The outbound westward journey is 80% of the risk - if I get there OK, then setting out back in the dry, with the wind behind me, should get me here before anything catches up...

'My' new drain proved its worth - I would definitely be shovelling gravel off the lawn, if it wasn't there.

Apparently , so I was told, the cheques are now scanned over to the clearance place (or whatever it's called) and lots are being rejected because they are too feint, signature goes over the line etc.
I'd taken a photo of the cheque before I handed it over to the bank teller , incase of any problems (Because me being me, nothing ever goes straight forwards, through other peoples incompetence  ). Showed her the photo of it today and she couldn't see anything wrong with it, as well as building society not being able to see anything wrong with the copy they received back.

Just glad I didn't tear my passbook up in my midnight paperwork decluttering frenzy !

Good luck getting to the pub dry. Not so bad getting trapped in once there :pint::pint::pint:
