Last night, I heard a noise outside at around nine o'clock. It turned out to be my local councillor, calling to inform me of impending roadworks starting today. He felt obliged to call, as I had failed to attend the second nearest acceptable pub on Sunday night, where he will always be found, deep into the weekly card game.
The work is the final extension of the footpath on this side of the road, out to the speed sign, a few hundred yards. It's been "on the cards" for a good while, but wasn't worth pursuing in reality, until the drain job was done and proven to be successful.
Today is just preparatory work, measurements, signage, etc. - I don't expect to be inconvenienced much, but I may be required to express my preferences over a few variabilities about the entrance to here.
