Had a card through the post, that's not for us, without revealing to much information

Anyone know a mrs D sifford /siffard (can't really tell)? a long shot i know but who knows

or what to do? there's no address like that I see why the postie has put it through our door, the first bit is right and the number, but afterwards it says "close" we're avenue

I would post it through the right door, but there's not another street the same name as mine

And a different postcode

I had a parcel for someone other day. Had my address on it, but different postcode.
By the power of Facebook I found the intended recipient, all within an hour.

Could try this: (if entering postcode leave out the space.)

Postcode Finder | Post Office

It's arround friars terrarce area, no street names even similar

And glam that would be good, but it's literally D sifford/siffard it's not even a full name

whoever sent this has got it totally wrong

can't post on facebook either as i'm not in any of these groups, i'm sure it's not that important but i'd like the right person to get it, never know how important it could be to someone or if anything is in it

For some reason it's making me anxious- I hate when you can't solve the puzzle! apparently there's not even (the house number)** in ST17 4BL

That's a shame, at least I had a name to go on.
Apparently British Airways are dispensing with the 474 airplane and selling bits and bobs off, like glasses and cutlery, @Carole might be a bit of nostalgia there for yourself? I can't remember the website he mentioned tho. Even the heated trolleys are up for purchase!

Ok.... turns out someone got the right address (sorta apart from postcode and "close") but completely wrong name, but it's a family member

Thanks anyway guys

Mystery solved, I can enjoy the rest of the day.

It does make me wonder how many poor posties get the stick for other people getting things completely wrong

Might either of the first two letters of the postcode be wrong and it's meant for one of the following places ?
BT16 East Belfast
CT16 Dover
KT16 Chertsey
SA16 Burry Port
SE16 Surrey Quays
SG16 Henlow
SK16 Dukinfield
SN16 Malmesbury
SO16 Southampton
SS16 Basildon
SW16 Southwark
SY16 Newtown

I've had three interesting 'difficult' misdeliveries.

One belonged to the postman himself and had just got mixed in with mine - that took a while to sort, as it only had his name on.

Another had the 'correct' address for me, somehow, but was totally unconnected in any way, it was never established how that happened - the intended recipient was lucky enough to have an unusual name and she was the first one I tried.

The first I had also had the correct address and was from an Oxford University college and could be seen to contain a perforated-edge computer print-out - in my innocence, I took this to be the poor girl's exam results, it being in the summer. After a period of communication with the college over a few weeks and some more letters from them, I established that it was actually about a bar bill for £3,000 and efforts to get the money...

She had, presumably, just picked my address to put them off the scent. I do check on her now and then, she is currently a 'well-respected' academic.

Get a competent Facebooker involved and you stand a good chance.

In Ireland, we now have a family about half a mile away with the same surname. There are probably about a hundred houses that have the same address, so the postman has to guess who it's for, if the name and initial on the letter doesn't give it away. The Eircode is specific to each house, not just a small area, so that is sufficient, if it is there - if not, you can still get the odd one for 'them' and take it round on the way past.

That's interesting, it's almost always the address that's mixed up.

I once gave my postcode over the phone - Sierra Tango etc - and was asked to confirm that I lived at an address in Canterbury.

"Sierra begins with a C, you should use 'Sugar'," I was told...
