Still 20℃ out the back here at midnight.

The sky was still bright enough to watch the bats doing their bit, but the spider who had the foresight to build his web in front of the greenhouse spotlight can just sit back and wait for the deliveries - I suspect he may need a gastric band shortly. The photo doesn't do justice to the rate of input that was going on.

That’s a bit too intelligent for my liking if I’m honest, best not let it breed

Just had our noisy (blue) bin emptied. About four hours earlier than usual, presumably the contractors made an early start to avoid the heat later in the day. Bet that went down well wherever they start their round.

I read a message somewhere saying they were suffering from staff shortages (covid/pingsolation) and they may be late collecting bins for a while and to leave the bins out if not collected on the normal day. Maybe they're starting their rounds earlier to try & cope?

I think I’d actually prefer our bin was collected at some silly time like 5am, I can easily get back to sleep from that. Collecting it 30 minutes before my alarm just means I get up before I want to

We are in a workshop and the tables are set out like exam conditions so it feels pretty safe - I don't know if I'll get much done today as there's lots in...

I woke up this morning with a few strands of what felt like spider’s web over my head/face.
I was quite impressed by its ambition.
On reflection maybe I should be more bothered about it’s size.

I thought of you yesterday morning @Lucy as I was sitting stationary in an oven on the M6 for half an hour approaching Walsall . Wasn't the best of mornings to get stuck in miles of traffic jam caused by a stranded vehicle in scorching sunshine without aircon

Was a bit concerned about an elderly gentleman I saw crossing Lichfield road , from St Leonards Ave direction , this morning. He was wearing pyjamas and carrying bedding :hmm: He smiled and said hello as he walked on the road side of the railings , and didn't look confused , but couldn't stop worrying about him all the way home.

I don't think Monday's will ever be a day I come in the office. Looks like they are almost done on the J10 slip road, which will cut my weekday journey time down, today it took me as long as it normally did on a Friday.

I hope it's better than the Sainsbury's by work I went to. Far too many small children coughing...

Second scan today. All good and healthy, they were convinced it was a girl, which for some reason I was surprised at, but after a few minutes they changed their minds.

No, she's 13, spayed & knackered after a severe accident years ago (her pelvis & back were broken, they healed bit it's left her an odd Shap, very slow & with kidney problems). And acts like a much older cat.

Shes scared of EVERYTHING (I guess car accidents do that) noises, movements, people, cars.... And only goes out for 10 min in the morning all year long..... Until high summer.... Then she wants to stay outside permenantly.... Which causes problems as she has daily medication, and if she doesn't have it ends up peeing blood with kidney problems.

It's been bizarrely hot here - again. Too hot to do anything of significance.

I decided to go for a gentle bike ride - if you go at a deliberately slow pace, the breeze is pleasant. I also decided that it was time to zip off the lower legs on these trousers.

I then spent longer than I would like to admit wondering what to do with the bike clips that hang on the handlebars, before deciding that leaving them behind was a good idea.

The target of the ride was a cemetery where a friend had been buried yesterday - with a current limit of fifty mourners at present and it being a small venue at the end of a no-through-road, one fewer was probably a good idea.

If you're going to end up somewhere for eternity, it's a very nice spot.

The whole round trip was about fifteen miles and I had taken the precaution of putting a bottle of water in the freezer for half an hour before I left.

I made a point of stopping regularly, keeping an eye out for cool, shady places, such as this bridge over a babbling brook.
