I believe it is open, not been in there in 20yrs though.... Sticky sticky carpets....
I used to go in regularly years ago , and always found it spooky. Always used to say I'd hate to be working there and left alone when all the customers had gone. Was surprised to see a light bulb on at one of the downstairs windows as I drove past yesterday.

I do remember going in the Wagon in the 70s but can't remember who the landlord was or the name of the barmaid who served me. How can we find out this vital information?
My main memories are preventing newly ' driving test passed" hubby to be, whacking his front end of his Avenger into another car whilst reversing on the Wagon carpark.

I'll try to have a look next time I drive past during opening hours..... I always thought it spooky/scary too..... It was our last stop on the way home from town in the olden days before the Antelope closed

My brother had his wedding reception in The Antelope. Think that was the first and last time I ventured into the Amtelope.

I lose EVERYTHING! I have 4 tape measures in one toolbag and still can't find one!

Sometimes months, or even years later, you inadvertently find a missing tool all dusty and covered in cobwebs in some dark corner or under a chair or down the back of something. There's no doubt in my mind there's a dark malevolent demon who's sole task is to move things about and hide them in awkward places. One day I'll catch it at work, and show it how an entire toolbox filled with tools can be fitted into a small hole .... :grr::teef::heyhey:

It's not a pub I've often used, much preferring as I do the Coach and Horses, so I don't know who kept the Waggon and Horses in the 1970s but about fifteen years ago it was leased by a Mr Griffiths who clearing up on a Saturday or Sunday morning would find empty cans, from supermarkets, left by customers who only bought their first pint of the evening, so no surprise that it then closed for a year or so.
I do though remember a Bents Brewery sign on the pub in the 1970s.

If only you'd mentioned The Four Crosses you'd have the Holy Trinity of Stafford pubs.

Is the mention of a pub like Candyman, mention a pub, a town where a pub might have been or a town where a pub would be quite good, as long as it was a "proper pub" say it and Mudgie appears talking about the old days.

I never used the Four Crosses much either - but with living not far away often used the Four Crosses at Hatherton including on my eighteenth birthday and New Year Eves, and about thirteen years ago when they had a "£1 menu"
