To be honest the Avanti fares are no cheaper and the Virgin discounted early booking fares seem to be non existent with Avanti.

If you booked with enough notice Virgin did some good deals.

In terms of the window space on his Pendolinos this is a common problem with modern trains including those used by London Midland (or whatever they're called now). The Avanti standard premium probably isn't worth paying an extra £15-£25 for considering journey times to London are only just over an hour.
Cheaper Advance tickets, Apex I think, started with British Rail and I expect most franchises do them to some extent though I don't know what's what these past eighteen months. I've not noticed the London NorthWestern, previously London Midland, trains as having other than normal sized windows but the Pendolinos are notoriously small. That "extra £15-£25" for Avanti's new 'Standard Premium' of course reflects fewer seats in those carriages, surely a worthwhile extra option and more likely to be worth it for those wanting to see where they're going than for those busy on their laptop all journey.

◄---- Orders a big 'Nuke the F***ers' button for @littleme for Christmas. (Much better than a bloody soap/sanitiser dispenser.)

Of course it doesn't actually nuke anybody, although you can get those, they're just a bit more expensive. :P
Much better than a soap dispenser! Thank you. :bananafunk:

But they're the same Pendolinos with the same sized windows. If you book in advance with both Avanti and Virgin as was you can select your seat so that you are next to a window.

If you all look North right now, the sky looks pretty amazing.

Yes, Pendolino windows will never be a proper size but Avanti reducing seats, I think from 76 to 64 seats, in their 'Standard Premium' carriages should give those passengers more space and ensure sight of a window.

The weather was interesting today. I got up early because a chap was coming to check out my solar panels and the system and replace the meter. (It's a lease job, they lease my roof and get the feed in rate and I get first bite at the power, so it costs me nothing. I'm not supposed to fiddle with it, but I have put the inverter on my network so I can monitor its behaviour over time.) I went outside early on and for the first time in months I felt cold, no wind, just a low air temperature.

When he'd finished I went off to Tamar Lake and walked around it at about midday. Set myself a pace of 3 mph and by the time I was back to the car I was lathered in sweat, the Sun blasting down, (Putting power into the house, sucking it out of me ...)
Got back and sat outside on the lawn with a few coldies.

Just been out to howl at the Moon and enjoy the clear sky, and it's getting cold again. It's as if Summer is fighting a final retreating action against Winter attacking on both flanks. The eternal Equinox battle tomorrow as the Sun heads South.

Can you actually book seats with Avanti? I could only select 'preferences' and then the seats were allocated. We needed 3 and they were not together in some instances

Yes you can. Their system automatically picks seats based on your preferences but if you don't accept them you can select your own seats.

Just been talking to son on the phone about when hubby retires , and our wish to move down to Worcester. Son looked up some nice houses on estate agents websites, saying
"This one looks nice , although looks like it was an old peoples house by the furniture! "....

Exactly the same kitchen units as ours, same TV stand and TV , same coloured 3 piece suite, one of our lampshades, and even the exact same fireplace surround had the same carriage clock and similar ornaments on
