Yes, I haven't missed the carers phone going off every 2 mins with WhatsApp messages from work......
I haven't had a "regular" job since 2010 as I've been self-employed in that time and the idea of your workplace texting you feels INSANELY intrusive to me. I can't believe that's become a normal thing.

I mean, I guess there's no real reason that it is any different than them calling your home phone but I don't think that we should have to give employers access to every means of contact we have, assuming there are alternatives.

I have something similar with calls on Teams with colleagues and customers expecting me to answer calls at anytime of the day or night. Then they moan if I don't answer the call.

My response is that I only use Teams for meetings and if they want to speak to me I have one of those old fashioned things called a mobile phone which I choose whether I answer it when out of hours.

I think lockdown has changed people's perceptions about what is an acceptable time to call work associates about work matters and not in a good way.

Depends on the place of work I guess. We have a work Discord server, the venn diagram our social circle and work colleagues is bordering on being a circle itself. However there’s very distinct separations between social and work chat channels, and we’re a team of 5 making weird VR shit so it’s a different kettle of fish to most workplaces.

I love Teams! If the meeting is running over, 'sorry I'm going to have to leave, I have another meeting now'

I had a meeting once. I was called down the engine room and the engineers showed me a large machine that looked like a cannon based Gatling Gun.. They told me it wasn't working.
"What the f*** is it ?" I asked.
"It's a fresh water steriliser," they replied.
"So, how does that come under me ?" I asked. (I was a Chief Electronics Officer at the time, but Chief is a deceiving word, because I didn't have any Indians.)
"It's got wires on it," was their laconic reply. Then they wandered off, I figured the meeting over.

Fortunately having practiced the golden rule: RTFM I figured it out and all it needed was a new UV strip light. Previously the Electrician had looked after it, but the company had decided Electricians were no longer needed and ditched the lot. I wish I'd been at the meeting where the shore wallahs decided that one, I'd have clanked out a full belt of ammo.

Teams is fine for meetings but not as a replacement for respecting others' working hours and personal time.

I really love the remove from meeting button if someone keeps talking or overruling other.

It's great when they don't realise they're no longer in the meeting but still carry on talking to themselves :)

Another bloody needle this morning. A 'storage' hormone injection in my lower back. With all these needles I'm starting to feel a bit deflated.

(ARF ARF ... needles ... deflated ... get it ?)

... :gonk:

(I'll get my coat.) 💩

Can sort of cope with the change on the laptop (and even got an edit , reply, and smilies button which my phone seems to have lost. )

In a bad mood because I had to p1ss about changing hubby's facebook password on the laptop , instead of watching my washing on the line. Looked out and chucking it down and I got more soaked than the dripping washing trying to grab it all in . Son realised hubbys facebook account had been hacked and had to sort it out for him (after the stupid fool had been clicking on dodgy links . Happened before and he still hasn't learnt his lesson! :grr:)

So did the big outage yesterday mess anyone else's smartphone up, too? From the exact second that FB stopped working, my phone kept telling me that the WiFi connection had no internet when it had internet and I couldn't go online with my phone all night. My iPad, PC and Xbox all connected to it no probs.
A few other people have told me it happened to them, too. Very weird!

This may help you when on mobile - if you look at the options that are usually on the top right of the browser (probably the three dots), you'll see one that says "request desktop site" or just "desktop site" or similar. If you click that, it will show on your phone as it does on your laptop, except it won't be formatted for mobile so the text will appear small but you can zoom in or use your phone in landscape. You can switch back by going to the options again.

Anyone tried food from Mustang Valley in the market? We were lured over by the delicious smell, but, there was only price lists with the names of food, but no descriptions, and never having had Nepalese food we didn't know what to order....

"Give me what you think I will like" is a fairly reliable tactic in these circumstances, I find.
