I will be honest, our local does brilliant food at Staffordshire Bull. Good, cheap prices but still with quality.

The landlord has taken over the Watermill, and do the same sort of menu and it's just as good. Plus at The Mill they do kids eat free with adult food.

If I do fancy a Chinese I do like the golden orient, I know a few on here that dont agree lol. The only thing with there it does work out expensive x

We were jolly impressed at the lunch offering at Pastiche, it's the first time we'd been and we're still full - 2 very nice courses for £5.50 each...

Excellent stuff, we'll be there again...

"The sausage was'nt burnt"

They could put that in their ads..

We did indeed visit Pastiche and Gilbert ejoyed his fish pie whilst yours truly opted for the lambs liver, 'oh dear' i thought it could be full of 'pipes but not so it was cooked to perfection very tasty and no pipes. We celebrated in spoons from 1.30 until it was dark .....

Tried Vivere the other night.. Was very nice, lads serving seemed (just about) on the ball.. could've done with bigger portions but that's just the Northerner in me.. definitely recommended though
Took cheap date there last night (5 quid pizza/pasta/calzone night), first time I've been there.

Suffice to say we'll definitely be going again - a fiver for that calzone is unbelievable, they taste like they would be worth twice that. Both of us had calzones and we had a piccante garlic bread too, also incredible.

Highly recommended - food, surroundings, service - wouldn't change any of it.

And, since the move, it's walkable from home - which may be dangerous as they sell wine by the bottle and they're next door to a massive booze shop :/

I have only scan read this but I don't think anyone has mentioned the chinese buffet, which I believe is called the golden orient. I have eaten there twice now with no complaints whatsoever. Great food, reasonably priced if you're fat bastard like me and they don't seem to have any problem whatsoever with adults using the chocolate fountain with profiteroles :D

EDIT: Said establishment is up on the north A34 junction somewhere around here.
I AGREE! ;)

Golden Orient is a bad example of a type of cuisine (all you can eat Chinese buffet) that you can't expect much from. Therefore really does show quite how bad it is. If that's your cup of tea, go to Buffet Island instead, in Newcastle. There's a place in Lichfield which is the same concept but they bring the order to your table instead - can't recall it's name.. Green Tea maybe or something..

Vivere is an oddity. I went when it first opened and really wasn't good enough, but then my main issue was the menu since I rarely order pizza's in an "Italian" and there wasn't much on it for me and very tomato based sauce heavy (and having been to Italy 3 times recently, not all Italian food is cooked in a shoddy ragu...). I had a steak that was mediocre at best. The second time I went, I ordered a pizza. It was nice, but no better than pizza express tbh. I also ordered a bottle of wine that was just undrinkable. It wasn't corked as far as i could tell, just bad. Very bad. In fairness to the staff, they swapped it for another bottle of something more drinkable (more expensive) and didn't charge me the difference. So good service, potentially good food let down by a poor menu (which is subjective I agree). I will go back. However there is NO WAY it is in the top 50 restaurants in the UK which their advert says on the front.

Back to the original topic, the only Must-East place in Stafford is The Moat House brasserie in my opinion. Although the Holly Bush in Salt and Karma (sad news) could also get a look in, although for different reasons. I've also always been happy with meals at The Sun and The Bear Grill, but would hardly call either Must Eat.

Stafford really needs a Must Eat place.. so much is resting on The Post House's shoulders..

Actually you make a good point about Pastiche. That is one of the best places to eat in Stafford. Good changing menu, keeps it simple to concentrate on quality and cost. Hidden gem I suppose.

Although, I don't really like liver.... I did have a great steak there the other day although I was told the fish pie had limitations.
