Free! My old Microwave

It's awesome.

It's BIG - like. a big microwave.
A bigcrowave, if you will.

If you want to google it, you'll discover how old it is. It's a Philips AVM 734
It's OLD - but it works!

Why would I get rid of such a beautiful thing? Because I've been using it for 20 years and I need a smaller one for the new kitchen :( Very sad.

It has lots of space inside for the largest of cakes, and it's really awesome because....... THE FOOD DOESN'T NEED TO ROTATE, oOOOOooooooo

I will accept either £0 for it, or £1,000 - whichever you prefer.

I can leave it on my driveway and watch you take it away - y'know.... because of the doom-disease.

The house near my Chalet has one, or at least a very similar earlier/later model, there is apparently a hidden moving reflector thing to waft the waves around, avoiding the need to move the food about on a turntable.

It is well over thirty years old now, but still works perfectly.

A man's microwave, though, as @djwellis says, it's not small - a megawave, perhaps.

I love my microwave.
I believe my grandmother was given it around the time of my birth. That'd be around 36 years ago. Awesome thing :D

Imagine it, we have lived long enough to enter a new era, where microwave ovens are family heirlooms.

The future has become the past.

The Antiques Roadshow needs to catch up with the zeitgeist.

Ours died about a week an a half ago, but I'm a bit suspicious of the integrity of a microwave that's 2/3rds of my age.... We only use it for ping rice, and while the furloughed carer is still cooking we will keep experimenting....

They are as good as they come - but, not 'compact' - if you have the space, then have it and pass it on to the grandchildren.

As with many innovations, the early ones are far better than later versions, when accountants had found out what they could get away with over the guarantee period...

I remember my dad having one in the very late 70's or early 80's - I was terrified of putting my hands on it as I thought they might melt off....

I have a Sanyo from late 1982, it's definitely got a bit slower in recent years, but the Philips here is still operating as it ever did.

I think it's from about 1984.

Not having a turntable means that larger things will fit in without banging off the sides - if it goes in and the door shuts, that's OK.
