Just been reading the thread of how the Rickerscote Arms have gone bust and that it was previously The Alpine Lodge.

Drove past the other day and there were lights on inside and it appeared to be open?

I still have one of their glasses around here somewhere.

My dad had a pint mug which he told me , as a kid, he had put on top of his car and driven home forgetting it was there.

The Trumpet used to be my local , and my mate Barbara lived there as her dad was a landlord/manager or whatever he was. Remember they had a hatch on the floor behind the bar which staff went down ladders to the (now) restaurant part below, Used to sh1t myself going down them, but daren't show how scared I was.

My first drink was in The Trumpet. Asked what I wanted at the bar , and not knowing any drinks, looked at the shelf behind and asked for a Pale Ale. Bloody awful , but drank it anyway so as not to falter and look under 18 . ..

In later years used to go there 'legit' in the bar , and playing darts. They had an outdoor there at the front of the pub in those days ( 70's ) as well.

Reminds me of the time my brother told me about pulling up at the traffic lights, only to see his mobile phone overtake him.
I found this spanner in an RAF tip in 1969. The Broad Arrow and the date on the other side revealed it to only be three years old at that time, but it required a good clean-up. It has been very useful over the subsequent decades, except during the many periods when it has been lost. It has always, so far, turned up again.

Anyway, it's greatest excursion was travelling to Bristol and back on the rocker cover of the car I had just used it on.

"Broad Arrow and the date on the other side" and no doubt a Section and Reference Number familiar to some former 16MU employees !

Every marine engineer I ever knew carried one of these in their boiler suit pockets. They were universally known as 'shifters.' The favoured brand for them seemed to be a firm called 'Bahco,' which I think is a Swedish outfit.

Yeah. But I stopped in in 2019. Friday night and maybe about 6 people in there at 8 PM. That's not a good sign.

OK this was a wet cold November night.

They seem to have combined the two bars now?

I’ve still got one (possibly more somewhere) glass from the Trumpet when we went for an engagement meal with the family.

Thankfully I can’t find any photos of the family at the meal :)

Best I can offer is that he may have been a contact prior to Alec and Jill aquiring it in 2002
or Friel brothers in 2005

I've still got a special half pint glass for the opening of the Morris Man in 1983 when I had no idea that it'd be my nearest pub for nearly thirty years.
