Can't get my bike to a garage due to no mot, tax or insurance. The bike was starting lovely, however I came to it the next day to find that when i press the ignition switch it just clicks, guessing starter motor? relay maybe? Don't think it's anything too serious. If anyone can come down wildwood area and take a look please let me know. It's just a cbr 125. Can pay cash.. No time wasters please.

Do you have a battery charger? If so, then charge it and see what happens. Batteries on the smaller bikes have very little leeway.

If you can measure the terminal volts, that will also be useful.

But, just charge it and you may have a good chance....

Hi, cheers for the advice. I have charged the battery and get the same results, the bike can be bump started but just clicks from the ignition from stand still. Unfortunately I don't really have the tools or parts to test anything, that said the voltage was also fine.

Does it just click once - or does it chatter?

Cleaning the connections of the thick cables that run from the battery to the solenoid and the starter motor won't hurt.

If you have the means, jumping it from a car battery will provide further evidence, but be very careful with the positive connection to the bike battery, as the frame won't be far away, I presume, and it will get quite exciting if there is a short there...

It clicks each time the ignition is pressed, I sadly don't have the option of jump starting it via leads either. I think maybe what i I should actually be doing is looking for a van man to take it to a garage for me instead, It has no insurance, mot or tax at the moment so I can't drive it there.

There's a good bike place in Haughton, might be worth giving them a ring to see if they'll come out.

Put my battery back on last year, sparks flew everywhere. Twice! I then took the battery back inside and haven't tried since.....

Got completely mugged about by Jones and Alcock I would highly advise avoiding them.
Never had dealings with them myself but anecdotal evidence suggests that they are very fair 'horse traders' but electrics is not one of their strong points.

Sadly Jones and Alcock are no more. Haven't been for some time either. Place is called Bowers Motors now and I don't think they do bikes any more.

Bought a couple of decent cars off J&A in the past...

Thought they seemed good myself, Rang up and was told he would come out to look at it the next day since I'm on his way home from work, He never turned up. I rang again the next day and asked what happened, he somewhat apologised and then proceeded to say he will come the following day after work. He didn't turn up again, both times he didn't have the courtesy to ring me and let me know. Bit odd really, now his business to me and people I inform is a 100% no go. So I don't quite understand why he would do it.

Hi

Julian at Taylor Brothers is your best bet.

There are a few things you can do yourself. Check the voltage at the battery first.

You can also carefully short out the 2 main connections on the starter relay. You will likely get a few sparks (and lots if you short it against the frame so be very careful). The start relay mainly just internally connects these 2 connections when you press the starter buttom.
