As a "local" nimby I posted my objection last week citing a list of pubs that have closed in the last 10 yrs I've been in stafford. Does the town necessarily need another. The "successful" pubs we have are struggling enough as it is. I can't see the point in allowing for a building to be erected in order to stand empty of customers

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the application will fly through and for the first few months it will be busy but then dead from Monday through to Sunday lunch time. The old envelope of used twenties probably got pushed over a table in corporate box at Old Trafford or something months ago.

How many of these pubs have been that size, laid out for food use and in an area with few other pubs? Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather we kept the traditional pubs, but they aren't viable premises for this sort of place. Besides, its not really hard to see where a lot of pubs go wrong. Look at the Bird in Hand, how many managers lately? And because they fall into the same trap, sell the same as every other pub in town but try and do so on the cheap. Standards slip, people with money don't visit, you get a core of drinkers who don't spend enough to keep the place afloat whilst the pub company up the rent and then its gone again til the next mug comes along.

Compare that to places like the Greyhound, why don't they ever struggle? The Kings Arms seems to be doing alright (not that I've been in lately, not a fan of their cider!) yet they had another pub at each end of the road.

Personally I think this place will be a success if they have a kids area, a weekend only place if not. The food isn't amazing, although you do get a lot, so it will cater to those that currently eat at the godawful chinese at J14 (and they are always busy).

As a resident of Castlefields I'm sure you realise the foxes only live there because you built houses on their last place ;)
