New pub opening - Hungry Horse in Stafford

I can see it serves a purpose for families with kids and the like, but can't say JUICE is a fan. Bad food and ropey beer. If you haven't got kids I can't see the point in going.

It's all very clean though, which is nice.

If you go in at 9.30 PM you wouldn't expect kids would you?

I had to ask twice for my pint to be filled up! I like a frothy head on my pint but I do like some beer with it!

I dunno, the whole place is kid orientated. I guess it depends on the age of the kids and the speed of the service, if you go in at 7:30 and find its a 45 minute wait for a table then you'll easily hit 9:30 if you have 2 courses.

Popped in there last night with proactive the younger for a bite to eat. No queues, straight to a table, food served within 10 minutes, staff very friendly. Proactive the younger enjoyed it as well, having a go on the play stations whilst proactive senior enjoyed a quiet pint afterwards.

The place does the job when you've got kids with you.

Visited last night to watch the footy.

Unfortunately they also had a band on. I'm all for live music but the truth was they thought they were good because they were loud. The guitarist tried to make jokes which were directed at the customers( not a wise thing to do). Worst band I've heard live in ages.

Moved on after one pint which was not very good.

To be honest it's not a place I'd consider for a pint, food with kids yes and even food with mates, but there are much better places for a drink.

Planning a return this week, based solely on that burger pic above!
But as I'm supposedly on a diet and eating healthily (ha!), I'll have to sneak- order it while she isn't paying attention.

Been once. Had a medium carvery. Plenty big enough - youngest son had a small one and that probably would've done me.

Good quality meat and veg - definitely better than Radford.

The only downside was the eating area was very busy which made it very very warm in there - almost uncomfortably so.

Went last night, enjoyed it. They do a free starter or dessert with certain meals on a Thursday so I did the ghost chilli chicken wing challenge, 10 wings covered in hot sauce and jalapenos. They were quite hot TBH, a little swelling of the lips certainly. I gave one to the lad, who proceeded to complain for ten minutes and demand a glass of milk. Wuss ;)

My OH had baked shrooms with philadelphia, which turned out to be just 2 small shrooms so not very impressive but they were alright. For mains she had a sirloin, I had the man vs burrito, the lad had a burger with beef/chicken/cheese/onion rings and the little un had the kids chicken wraps. Also got the youngest a dessert and I got a pint thrown in with the burger. The lot cost £38, really can't grumble. The burrito won though.....

Had a carvery on Sunday and whilst the food was great it was way too warm inside the building. It wasn't a particularly warm day outside but they certainly need some more air con or even some open windows in that place.

It's a shame to detract from a good meal with poor conditions.

Had a meeting there this afternoon, place was fairly empty but it was still roasting hot.

Still, sat outside with a couple of beers was quite pleasant.

Totally agree. Went in Monday at 1.00 - had a sweat on half way through the meal. (not because of the size of it.)

Surely a brand new build like that has air con.

It was built on a price no air con included but i did see the extraction ducts going in.
We gave it s try second week it was open won't be going again food cold and well over priced IMO
Another boil in the bag and room full of microwaves outlet.

Got persuaded to go there tonight, against my better judgement and my general 'go nowhere at the weekend' rule. It was oppressively hot and sticky, like the Borneo jungle, and so noisy that it was difficult to hear what was being said from across the table. The food that we had wasn't anything better than acceptable.

Not for me really.

As I've said many times this is not fine dining, it's not even out for a meal with friends unless you really aren't fussy, it's somewhere to take kids. If you don't have kids in tow I'd give it a miss, but compared to the red Hill (which is the only comparable place locally) it's a step up. Which really isn't hard!

Just to reinforce if you don't have kids then pastiche isn't a massive difference in cost and way superior. Unless you are a chubby, if one of your main criteria is number of calories per plate then the horse ain't bad.
