New Train Services To/From Stafford.

I'm not sure what your point is as, unlike Stafford, St Albans and Hatfield both get an overnight passenger service.

The point I was making (didn't see this reply until now) was it was 24 hour every single day of the week in St Albans except Saturday when people are out clubbing in London and would actually want to get home on a train.

As for why Stafford doesn't have such a service, it's either due to noise levels of the trains or a perceived lack of demand.

There's only another five days for objecting to the closure of the Ticket Office at Stafford railway station.
You can comment using a form available in the ticket office,
or email TicketOffice.Avanti@transportfocus.org.uk
or write to them at FREEPOST RTEH-XAGE-BYKZ, Transport Focus, PO Box 5594, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 9PZ.

Really don’t see the need for ticket offices nowadays. Ticket machines and online sales which include fare splitting make them largely unnecessary. An expensive just in case.

There will always be station staff at places like Stafford so there’s people on hand to assist. The one thing Stafford does need is barriers.

Yes, largely unnecessary for most passengers, but necessary for the minority with disabilities, "people on hand to assist" not being a proper substitute as I explained in my objection to the proposed closures.

There are many tickets that aren't sold online or from station machines, e.g. Derbyshire Wayfarer, System One (Greater Manchester) Day tickets. Also, for those who still want to use cash, there are even more that can't be purchased from machines.

My message to the Government (who are driving this change) is make sure every ticket can be purchased online / from the station machines first, then maybe it will be time to start looking at redeploying ticket office staff.

Interestingly the proposal for Stafford (and for many other stations) isn't just to close the ticket office, it is also to reduce the hours that station staff will be available to assist. If the proposals go ahead, turn up early morning or in the evening and you will find there's no one on hand to assist.

A poorly thought out proposal and one that needs to be resisted.

Absolutely right, although the plan is more about reducing railway station staff than "redeploying ticket office staff".
