.......what, like having a crown?
No like having to have all their teeth pulled because any other treatment costs to much at the NHS dentist. I needed one crown but that's not the same as false teeth to my kind anyway!

I've always seen them as false teeth! My very first job was as a dental nurse and they were always classed as such, along with bridges

I've had a temporary filling for over three years but when that fails I'll probably have the tooth out rather than all the trouble and expense of what was recommended.

No crowns or false teeth for me and I've only ever gone NHS, so as always, remember it isn't everyone.
Don't not ever miss an appointment, they'll get rid of you in the blink of an eye....there are so many people waiting.

They got rid of me as they closed during COVID, I didn't bother them for an appointment as I thought they'd just send me one when they started back up.....but no, they took me off the list as I didn't don't request an appt. (Hillcrest, changed to something else midway through COVID)

That's not what happened to me with my NHS dentist during covid. They cancelled two appointment, I didn't see them for nearly 18 months and I never got taken off their list.

I am probably going to go private in all honesty, likely Church Lane as it seems people on here, and my daughter recommend them. I am not sat here with toothache, but I have definitely neglected them and in all honesty what is stopping me from arranging an appointment at the moment is the cost. Take the hit now and it shouldnt be too much of an issue further down the line I suspect.

Exactly what happened with me, frustrating as it is so difficult to get on one.

My neighbour was with Hillcrest NHS for years, then couldn't get an appointment during lockdown . Needed an urgent appointment after lockdown to be told she'd been knocked off their NHS books as she hadn't been for so long. Quoted her a fortune to go private with them to look at the problem tooth (can't remember what happened after , but she paid the expensive cost at the time to have a tooth removed)

Got this earlier, It says use a small amount, like the size of a green pea. I used a lot less than that. I can't feel anything on the right side of my mouth.......................

NHS dentist fees will surge by 8.5 per cent from April 24, despite warnings that the “Victorian” policy will see more people unable to afford care.
There has been a decade of Tory taxpayer funding cuts, meaning the public have been forced to pay more for trips to the dentist.
A band one treatment such as a check-up will increase from £23.80 to £25.80, a band two like a filling will increase from £65.20 to £70.70, and a band three like dentures will increase from £282.80 to £306.80.
It comes after it was revealed that 11 million Brits are not booking dentist appointments or cannot afford dental fees - a huge jump up from four million in 2019.
Around 7.5 million people in England were unable to access NHS dentists last year while 3.6 million did not bother trying to book an appointment, according to the Mirror.

They're not booking dentists cos they can't get in with one! My dentist closed during COVID, while I worked EVERY SINGLE DAY.... They struck me off because I didn't attend appointments WHILE THEY WERE CLOSED......I had to pay privately to get dental treatment (Raj at church lane is excellent)...but where's the justice or fairness in that......I know I'm not the only person.

Band 3 is the biggest amount of horseshit…

A root is band 2, but you basically have to get a crown or the root will fail pretty damn quick. Guess which band a crown is? Hint: not 2.

My neighbour couldn't get an appointment with Hillcrest during covid. Then when she was in real pain in later days, rang to be told she'd been taken off their nhs books due to not going...

Had to pay to go private with them instead for the tooth to be taken out etc, which cost her a fortune.

I'd have gone elsewhere out of principle.

Think I said elsewhere but at least my dentist said come soon or get taken off, rather than just do it.

My new NHS dentist said that the shadow on the xray she was concerned about was my front tooth root's deteriorated and could fall out at anytime, or need to be taken out if causing problems..
2 options ....implant which they don't do so would have to find a private dentist to do it (I'd go to sons good one) , or they could do a false tooth on a full plate :hmm::eek:

Wondering at my age if it's worth forking out privately for the implants , and suffering going through all that. (And knowing my luck things won't go straighforward!). Or being a goofy old woman :teef: as I'm gagging with the plate in .
(Had falsies on a full plate for 6 weeks while my bridge was being made years ago, and had to keep running out of the office to take them out as making me gag)

Or option 3 .....walk around in public with a mask on , hiding a bloody great big gap in my mouth.

"could fall out at anytime" is surely the remedy, and one that costs nothing.
Take their advice and it'll cost you a fortune.

Never thought of that in my panic!
I'm just hoping she's right when she says it's not the one the bridge is attached to. I've thought it was for the past 28 years :hmm:
Soon find out if the whole lot come crashing out with it.... 😂

( I've got another theory though , I think the 'shadow' and "root erosion' on xray is from when I had an operation in hospital through the roof of my mouth years ago. Mr Goodwin friars terrace knows about the op & wasnt concerned when I last saw him )

Not having anything done unless I reeeeeally have to! Apart from the cost, so petrified that I feel like I'm going to my death when going to the dreaded dentists.
