I'd update TBH, can't remember the actual bug fixes that have been done since then but IIRC it changed a fair bit. I'm yet to find an issue on the new box, not yet updated an old one to test though.

Has anyone heard of the Now tv av connector? Does / will it work? Daughters tv has no hd connection thingy to connect it to & the bloke in Maplin said that a connector didn't exist & that if we found one it would be fake....

https://accessories.sky.com/catalogue/products/white-now-tv-box-av-cable

We can't afford to get her a new tv at the moment, and its on the sky shop, so will it work?
i can probably see why the chap in maplin thinks that - i assumed the now TV box just has HDMI output, which is digital, and what you want is analogue so a simple cable adapter would be impossible (you can get converters but they are very expensive)..

however, as you say sky appear to sell a cable, so i had a google and it seems that there is a weird "AV out" jack on the now TV boxes:

this is presumably analogue output, for exactly the reason that you want it..

long story short: yes, that cable you have found on sky will do the trick, as long as you defo have one of the white now TV boxes and your TV has those red, white, and yellow RCA connectors :)

I might have one, pretty sure the roku LT came with one. Can't promise I still have it but will look tonight :)
Don't worry too much @tek-monkey & turn the house upside down looking - we know we have one somewhere - but o can't find the 'bag of wires' that its in (I think. I threw the whole bag away, shhh don't tell Mrlittleme) ...

Anyhow, they're only a fiver on now tv, or 99p on Maplins home delivery! (out of stock at the mo).

Found a likely suspect, and I can't imagine a use for it myself, so you're welcome to have it.

I already kinew where to look so no problem there. I finally, after 6 years of living here, sorted out all the random wires I had knocking about and binned loads just 2 months ago. Since then I've needed 2 that I threw away, always happens. Pretty sure a few of these were in the pile but at least I kept 1!

No worries, it's yours. I work in town if you're ever about in the day? Otherwise pm me your address, you aren't far so will drop it by. Don't want anything for it, just hope it works :)

Every couple of months or so I go on to my now tv account to cancel , on the last conformation page they always offer you a cheaper deal so you will stay ... Handy to know x

It's also often cheaper to buy spare boxes, as the codes you get with them are worth more than you pay. I managed to get 6 months of entertainment passes for £20 with a free new style box.

@tek-monkey / anyone had a problem with the newer black nowtv boxes deteriorating over time? mine is 6 months old and has suddenly become quite flaky, giving errors in the middle of watching stuff on iplayer, and buffering problems in plex.. i don't think it's our internet connection, as we have loads of other devices connected that don't have any problems, but i'm not ruling it out since we're on virgin..

restarting the box via the system menu seems to sort it out most of the time, but i'm having to do that at least once a day.. anyone else have similar problems? i guess i'm asking just because i'm in two minds about whether to buy another one, or whether to get a fire stick instead and try kodi out (which i've been wanting to do for a while), plus i'm not entirely convinced that problem isn't our internet connection..

Not noticed myself, but I don't use it that much.

Maybe worth setting up a monitor on your broadband? I set up a think broadband one a while back to diagnose my own issues, it pings your router regularly to see response times. Its not perfect, but it can spot a problem. Here's mine:

The green should be fairly static with the yellow peaking where you are more active. Basically all is good (mostly) unless you get big blue sections, that makes things crap. The red on the other hand means its more loved than katie price.

You can set up your own here:

Not sure if this helps, but, we have an older white box - for the last 2+ weeks the signal has been constantly dropping off leaving me with the swirly loading thing or an error message saying its lost connection. We're on also on Virgin & I firmly believe the problem is with Virgin.

that's exactly what i'm getting on my black box.. i wonder if virgin is "managing" certain traffic?

thanks for the monitoring software suggestion, i've been meaning to track down something like that for exactly this sort of thing (i.e. evidence to take to virgin to say their connection is flaky)..

Randomly, middle son (who pays for the Virgin in lieu of board) phoned them about two weeks ago as the contract he has is coming to an end & he wanted to change suppliers as the signal was constantly dropping off. Virgin told him that they could change the way the internet acted (ie currently its split equally between all devices that are calling for usage), but they could change it so his X-Box (Flippin FIFA) would get a priority signal & all of us mere humans would receive less..... he hasnt been in to try this yet (no ones been out, so presumably they've done it via the box on the street or just used magic) but out signal & thr dropping out has got much much worse since!
