Stafford's Mr Sizzle gets his fingers burnt by £450 cigarette costs

MAN fined £75 for throwing a cigarette on the ground outside his burger van in Stafford town centre now must pay more than £450.

Gary Southall discarded his cigarette after having a smoke outside the Mr Sizzle food van where he was working. He was given a £75 fine by a Stafford Borough Council officer but did not pay it.

The 55-year-old, from Paddock Lane, Aldridge in Walsall was found guilty in his absence this week. Stafford Magistrates fined him £200, ordered him to pay £250 costs plus a victim surcharge of £20 for the littering offence.

Stafford Borough Council took Mr Southall to court after he failed to pay the £75 fixed penalty notice.

The court was told the fast food trailer was parked in the town’s Market Square in July and Mr Southall was seen in his Mr Sizzle uniform smoking the cigarette. Magistrates heard the officer saw him drop the butt on the ground and then get back in to the trailer.

I have no problem with people getting fined for dropping litter.

He can pay his fine out of his profits - have a look at how cheap those pitches are, seeing that they are in a prime position

Why don,t those pitches ever come up so other traders could bid for them?

Maybe PPPPP can investigate with SBC

It's littering, plain and simple. He could have paid up but he chose to be an arse so now he gets fined more and costs. Tough!

Oh and his hot dogs are awful, Bab.

If he'd not dropped the fag end, it wouldn't have cost him anything. If he'd paid the fixed penalty notice he would've paid £75. I have no sympathy and I'm glad that people are being fined for dropping litter, there is no excuse, and given his location in the town, there are plenty of bins around.

Regarding the litter bug well done to the council should be in town all the time to catch lazy twats, but as this guy is not from the town why would he care would also like such pitches to go to local businesses. if people picked up after themselves or threw away their rubbish it wouldn't cost the tax payer so much. Stoke could learn a lesson here they have 3 people dealing with complaints from the public. That us why stoke us a dog shit haven.

Serves him right were his pitch is there are bins within feet, i don't care how much his fine ends up it is his fault he should of paid up.
Maybe he can afford to let the fine grow from £75 to hundreds because of all the money he saves by removing 80% of the meat from his burgers.

How do I edit this?

Well he does run a business here. The reason I sweep the pavement outside the coffee house where I'm employed twice a day has little to do with the fact that I live here, but is largely about the fact that it doesn't do a lot for the corporate image to have piles of fag ends outside, or pieces of litter with the company name on blowing down the street.
