Teams syndrome?

I was just venting my frustration/joy of using Microsoft Teams and the need to go for a short walk at some point during my working day.

Every Microsoft Teams meeting has the same comments (also known as Teams bingo) e.g. “hello can anyone hear me”, “I’m having connection issues”, “can you all go on mute”, “sorry you’re cutting out”, etc.

It all increases the time it takes to have the meeting.

There are also the usual distractions of “sorry there’s someone at the door”, “I need to drop off the call to get a delivery”, “I need to leave to join another meeting”, screaming kids or barking dogs, family members wandering into camera view, etc.

Also people expect me to be available at any time of the day or night just because they have called me on Teams and expect me to answer immediately. I’ve had people call me on my mobile to ask me if I’m ok because I didn’t immediately answer their Teams call.

This is just how ghosts feel when people start using a Ouija board.

Always makes me a bit suspicious that.
Well as Ive always said, of managers can't manage in the office what the hell will they do outside the office with people working from home.

Loads of colleagues don't follow DSE guidance and stuff like that and having your cam on shows yourself up in that respect....

Ah! I didn't know this!

My job has stayed the same, just more stress & more hours.
Eldest child's job stayed the same, just with less staff.
Middle child started a new job during lockdown, at a bank in Birmingham, but has so far only worked from home, only having contact with his 'mentor'.
The husband was locked down first time, but this time isn't, although his store isn't open. He & the other managers just check on each other by phone every hour as they're all lone working.

So I don't know anyone else who does teams or zooms, I didn't really realise how difficult it must be, the same as I didn't understand @kyoto49 being lonely stuck at home.

Very interesting!

It has its limitations but beats travelling 100s of miles for a meeting in person

I bet!

I can't imagine having to juggle little kids and working from home though.
It was bad enough when minime (daughter) was off school and was having online lessons, with me constantly being told not to go into her room as she was 'at school', not to hoover, or turn the washing machine on!

Ah-ha! I know about confrance call bingo! Once or twice a week the husband has a confrance call with the other managers, but it's just a call, no video.... Exactly the same thing happens there too.

They also have another game of slipping song lyrics/film titles/book names etc into the call, not sure what that's called though.

We do a lot of talking through spreadsheets and models and using Hangouts actually works better for that in some respects, you are focused on the screen in front of you with whatever is being shared, rather than being distracted by the rest of the office.

We're moving from Skype to Teams but most people at our place don't even turn the webcam on

Yeah we are a video free zone. I mean who wants a close up of anyone with bad light and wfh hygiene.

I think we are ok with Teams meetings now we understand the etiquette, no video, be on time, mute if not talking, and hand up to take your turn. Having said that after about 5 mins I lose the will and just play on my phone!

Being alone with no human interaction is terrible. I'm sad that I didn't do more when my oldies were living alone now. I used to pop in often but there are so many long hours to fill. Plus I'm missing hugs :(

Teams and Zoom. Novelty well and truly over. Today has been teams meeting after teams meeting. Uninspiring they are!

You may or not know, I got trapped in my work lift for 1 & 1/2hrs at the beginning of lockdown. It was April 1st and no one believed me at first! They didn't even know what the lift alarm bell sounded like, so I had to phone the manager to let her know!

That is some serious bad luck!

Once I'd stopped laughing/wettin mesen and picked myself up off the floor and got my breath back, I thought '' Poor @littleme ''

I'm trying to get information about pubs providing services during lockdown on WhatPub https://www.whatpub.com/. Tick the box that says "only show venues with information about covid-19 temporary arrangements" Then search for Stafford and click on Stafford ----------------town. Alternately search for "Heart of Staffordshire" and select the CAMRA branch which will give you the surrounding area as well. I still have to enter anything for Stone and a few villages. Any corrections or additional information welcome.

Had a take-out last night from Thai No.5 in Gaol Mews. One of my favourites restaurants in Stafford & the food was just as good as eating in. Glad to see they were fairly busy too. They were taking plenty of orders on the phone & on Uber Eats.
